Every now and then in the equipment area gold pieces appear at bargain prices. The Harley Benton OD-5 Overdrive is pretty much one of them.

Why?
In short, the sound is great. The workmanship is great. It's not a clone, it's not a Strymon OD, it's not a vintage Tubescreamer. But in my humble opinion, that does not matter, because in the end it is more important to the guitar and above all the amplifier. And what sound you are looking for.
For example, a Fender tube amp takes on just about any pedal with open arms and makes it sound like gold. Again, this one. A mediocre Marshall transistor plus Zerre in return simply does not give a really fat sound. But even this sound can be just right for someone else. Old wisdom, but it really depends on what you want to do. And how to record and mix. And so on.

Personally, I find the HB OD-5 really great. Even when unpacking the thing prepares the purest joy. Stable processed, regulators are solid, the quality is already good from the outside. In addition, I find the color very chic, but only incidentally.

Infected and played, and immediately it was clear that you get a really nice, warm overdrive here. My main amp is just a vintage bassman, because I like almost every pedal that I chase through. So everything has a lot to do with personal preference and the rest of the gear.

Deductions, I have to do with the rules (is that a correct word?). Because not much happens when tweaking. Maybe the manufacturer could make the parameters a bit more defined. And you have to play around a bit with the controls, because some settings sound a little scratchy.

All in all, you get a solid pedal here for the money. And I do not mean that it's okay for amateur musicians, but to fuck off when you go to the studio or what plans bigger. No, I just mean: Do not expect a vintage Tubescreamer for 40 Euros. But try this thing out, it's really a great sounding overdrive with harmonic frequencies.
