9/10 times it works as easily as you'd hope on kick & snare. Occasionally you might need to experiment a little with which of the dots you manually mute or unmute to capture the right hits or let through the right transients as ghosts - but normally it works it out accurately for you.
Unfortunately I haven't managed to get the same experience on Toms - it often struggles to recognise them, even with lots of tweaking. Currently I still just manually cut the audio files - even then it still struggles.
The 8-layer sample editor is great. Very easy sample editing, and choosing between random, round robin, all, or velocity is very helpful for different applications. It's really worth having a session to just play with for a little while to get really familiar with all the buttons so you're ready to use it very efficiently going forward.
It also works very very well just as a very smart drum gate, if you don't want to use a sample!
