These are the most musical, flatwound bass stings you can buy in my humble opinion. They are of course expensive...very expensive from other suppliers but actually very well priced with Thomann. These stings are not only tuneful but also relatively low tension which facilitates great expression in your playing. I personally find them less good for driving rock music not surprisingly but this is mainly due to string tension.
I had previously tried Rotosound and GHS flatwounds and both of them made my bass sound dead and lifeless. I am really glad I finally pulled the plug on the Thomastik JF324 because they are by far the best. Although not as smooth as the other two, they manage to stay flexible and therefore easier to play without sacrificing the tension. They are very well balanced and produce significantly more output than GHS and, especially, Rotosound strings. In my opinion, JF324 have a slightly brighter tone with better note definition and produce more harmonic overtones. If you tried all other flatwounds and you didn't like any of them, I'd suggest trying these before you give up on flatwounds altogether. While Thomastik might be more expensive than some other flatwounds, they finally brought my bass back to life, and you can't put a price on that!
