Top product

Michael1163, 22.01.2016
This saxophone is a really great instrument. The workmanship is very good. The flaps have a pleasant resistance and are easy to reach. Of course the Sax - like most others - is clearly oriented on the Selmer Mark VI and also in Selmer Mark VII and SA. If you like these Selmer models from handling, you should take a look at the Thomann MK IV. You will be surprised.

The high copper content of the body ensures a slightly warmer and more cohesive sound compared to other alloys. But, of course, you can not make any general statements about sound and speech, because that depends heavily on the mouthpiece used, the leaflet, and not least the play of the saxophonist. With the right combination, which can be a little different for each player, both will be perfect.

Two things could be judged as bad, if one is very picky:
1.) The supplied mouthpiece may be difficult to play. The width of the track is rather narrow. I recommend to anyone who is testing the instrument also try a mouthpiece with a wider track. Of course, this also depends on the player. If it does not give the desired result right away, try other mow-ups and, of course, leaflets. This is a beginner's tip, I know!
2.) The saxophone is hard for an old one. But you get a top processing and a high-quality alloy.

I did not negatively influence the two points just mentioned, because it is clear to every saxophonist that included mouthpieces are always somewhere a compromise and one must choose his own suitable mouthpiece and, of course, because a higher weight, which is made of a Quality material, should not be negative. That would be quite unfair.

I gave the saxophone three professionals from the region to test their opinions. All three were enthusiastic. I recommend to anyone who has the opportunity and interest to go to Thomann and try the saxophone.

Finally, I would like to emphasize the following: My very good valuation is not based on the low price of the instrument! The saxophone is simply very good and not only because it is relatively cheap. Pay attention, for example, to specific processing details. Double braces on large flaps are one of many quality features. They prevent the large flaps from bending and then possibly not closing properly.

I would like to ask Thomann to continue with this quality and the demand for saxophones. I am absolutely sure that you will see more and more people playing Thomann in the future. If my next saxophone is due, I will look at the MK IV tenor in any case.

A very good sax ...

Tim aus Z., 08.09.2015
... which is unparalleled in this price class.

As a professional saxophonist, I needed another instrument with as much good sound, response, intonation, processing and price as possible.
The sound is wonderfully soft and shapeable - I use a classic Selmer C * mouthpiece and have a Meyer 7 medium chamber and a BergLarsen Grained Ebonite 105 for modern music. In "my" musical directions from classical to jazz, one can use the Sax everywhere. I personally the dark sound - radio / fusion friends should not attack this horn, as less overtones resonate and it sounds beautifully dark and soft.

The registers can be played cleanly in all possible areas from small b to g '' ''. I had two identical Saxe of this type for testing - with the one the depth did not really start and "rolled" loose, which was certainly only a small adjustment thing. In the case of the Sax which I retained did not occur however.

The material of the body feels thick and valuable, clean solder joints (with both Saxen) and a very elaborate engraving over the entire length up to the S-bow - also on the "back" - make the horn a real eye-catcher.
The mechanics make an easy impression, but it has the good resistance that is pleasant to me. It is pleasantly quiet and noticeably dense.

The matching suitcase with enough space for all necessary accessories also comes stably therefore. The backpack straps and the shoulder strap might have less plastic for my taste and a little thicker and softer. In the suitcase lying the Sax unfortunately has on the "left hand" a bit of game, so I will pad it there for further transports there, for example with Wischer or similar.

In this price segment, Yanagisawa-Saxe and the Yamaha YAS 280 and even the more expensive YAS 480 have left a lot to be desired here - especially by a sound that is too bright for me and much louder mechanics.

It is to be hoped that the mechanics will remain in shape and remain reliable for the coming years - but that feels very good so far!

The included accessories - wiper and blade - should in my opinion belong to NO Sax.
- Due to the lack of positive characteristics with regard to intonation, dynamic range and response, a 1.5 sheet is almost never played anywhere
- The wipers should be replaced by better ones right from the start
- the attached mouthpiece with matching leaf screw in the Sax matching optics wandering unplayed in my drawer, since I have my setup for years, so I can not judge this - but it has on the edge between the table and chamber noticeably unclean milling edges, therefore Maybe a lamp is built from it :)
The addition of accessories I find through teaching activity always with many Saxen (also with Selmer & Co!), And is actually rarely really needed. Better not add any accessories, offer a "bundle" and with the money saved the case a little improve a little - Perfect!

Thanks for a great Sax!
