Thomann EP604-4 Euphonium

David H. 47, 18.05.2013
Firstly let me say that this euphonium is a fine instrument. it is easy to blow and is very responsive.

I find it a little difficult to hold correctly because the mouthpiece seems a little too low and it feels as though the mouthpipe needs to come round to the right a little.

One of the pistons was sticking when I first got the instrument but a little valve oil worked wonders

I would have liked slightly more substantial brass construction and time will tell if it is going to be a dent magnet.

Excellent case.

Only small number of observations, overall the euphonium is good and represents good value for money

A really good euphonium at the top price

Benedikt195, 01.11.2010
I bought this instrument just as my first own wind instrument. So far, I played 5 years Tenorhorn and before 4 years Es-Waldhorn. As a tenorhorn, I had a good 30 years old "Amati", who had his best days definitely behind him and since I had the opportunity to play euphonium (at school, for example), it was clear to me that I was on my own Instrument for this design. As I find, one hears itself better, the sound spectrum is bigger and also the limits in the tonal range are better to achieve. In addition, I definitely wanted an instrument with Quartventil, in order to be able to make the pseudo bass.

The Thomann Euphonium met all my expectations. The sound is very full and beautiful with a playable range from c to c '' ', with my old tenorhorn it went only from g to c' '' and ab a '' One had to torture much more, while I came with the euphonium in scale exercises even to the e '' '. The valves run well, even if it should still be a little lighter, maybe this will also give something over time. The only real drawback of this beautiful instrument is its weight with 4 kg it is nevertheless considerably heavier than my previous (three-part, 2.6 kg).

Overall, I am definitely very satisfied and also my teacher, to whom I presented my new achievement today, was pleasantly surprised. So it is not only the comparison with my old "noodle" that I am thrilled.

Something else about the accessories:
The suitcase was definitely saved, but it fulfills its purpose. It has an outer pocket which is just too small for A4, but for oil etc. it does their services, and in the middle for 2 mouthpieces. The idea with the rolls was surely well meant, the handle attached above is so tight, that the suitcase can not roll properly (I even doubt that the handle would be suitable for children's hands). But there are still straps to grab the suitcase on your back. The mouthpiece is not evil: a simple, silver-plated 1/2 AL. With the approx. 26 mm diameter one can manage on all pitches well, for children I would however a somewhat smaller one as for example my old with 23 mm recommend. If you do not have an instrument with pump valves at home, you should not forget to bring oil together.

I have also read something in the other categories before the purchase, and in the process it came to the conclusion that the only weak point of the Thomanninstrumente is the varnish. That's why I ordered some maintenance polish and a cloth right now, let's see how this is about time. I will try to think about it again in 1 to 2 years. I also made leather hand protectors. For example, for tenor horns and trumpets, there is something to buy, for Euphonia I have unfortunately found nothing, straps are also a problem, since a self-construction is necessary. A device for a marching fork is available.

This instrument is definitely recommended! Even tenorhorn or baritonists, I can only warmly advise to a pro play.
