Taylor sound quality from this perfect small body travel/ couch guitar!
danthe74, 24.05.2017
If you are looking for the legendary Taylor quality of sound but either you mostly need a travel/ small body guitar or your budget is limited but you do not want to compromise on quality: look no further! GS Mini will meet all your expectations! Love at first sight and sound for me :-) and I could not enjoy more my come back to playing guitar daily on my living room coach after a very long break.

PROS:
- high build quality
- crisp (but not too much), full, warm (probably thanks to mohogany solid top) and unexpectedly loud sound this small body can produce
- easy to tune
- looks more expensive than its reasonably "tailored" price
- easy to plug with a dedicated pick-up (not included)
- Elixir bronze phosphor strings
- you can take it on board of any plane

CONS:
- bit expensive against its close competitors but see all PROs above
- if you need/ want to go "plugged", it seems more reasonable to invest into GS mini-e with the built-in higher end factory pick-up system rather than to invest EUR 100 into the GS mini dedicated pick-up (no equalizer).
You cannot go wrong here!

Great all-round instrument
Manu H, 07.05.2017
In the normal case, I do not tend to assess all the products I purchase. For almost 20 years I am a Thomann customer and this is the first article I rate ;-). Because in this case I have to make an exception!

The GS Mini absolutely corresponds to the promising descriptions, which I have read a bit skeptically. I have now tested many instruments of this size / class for months.
The main goal was to find an instrument that meets my requirements in terms of sound and handling. In addition to baby carriages, 4-person travel luggage, bobby car, baby bed and co, it can also be easily fitted into the trunk of our very spacious Skoda Ocoda:

First of all: I place extremely high value on
1.) the right balance between space-filling-balanced sound and sound
2.) high-quality processing.
3.) In addition, the guitar as a third instrument should be affordable to two Lakewoods (Dreadnought and GrandConcert) (no expensive parlor guitar) and
4.) somehow offered the basis to offer the junior a manageable, beautiful instrument, on which it is fun to play from the beginning.
Quite a lot of demands ....

In any of the points you have to make serious compromises. Especially when it comes to the compatibility of size and sound.
Since I frequently change the guitar (Open-D, Droped-D, Open-G), I also looked for an instrument that does not suffer from intonation despite the shorter scale. Fascinating however: The GS-Mini holds even unusually fast the tuning!

All in all, Taylor in my opinion has managed to construct an instrument that - as described - creates "look small and somehow still sound great" (and even though I am not even such a convinced "Taylor disciple" bin). Especially with the Mahagony-Deckenholz the GS-Mini convinced me! My feeling for the most balanced sound between crisp bass, powerful mid-range and clear-brilliant highs.
The spruce top was too "thin", the Koa blanket too "heavy" of the sound. But that's pure taste ...

A small "excursion" from the consistently positive assessment for all, who still want to read something more critical:
The string position was also adjusted for my guitar at the lower limit, which makes a "twitch" in the first moment of the more powerful allusion! However, no reason to complain about the instrument, let alone return it (this only to other reviews). A simple strip of a self-cutable 0.5mm thick PickGuardes inserted under the bridge insert and already snatched nothing more (!). And that with my very hard stop va in the bass range ...

I also decided against the GS Mini with pickup for 100, - more, because the Taylor system somehow could not quite convince me. The simple piezo pickup does not do justice to the beautiful acoustic sound of the GS-Mini. Although it should be for "occasionally times anstöpseln". I'd rather invest in one, two years 150-200, -¤ to retrofit a decent system with additional ceiling-mounted microphones ...

These two things, however, do not break a full 5-star rating in my opinion.

Conclusion:
The GS-Mini has managed to convince a very demanding customer. And all along the line! A absolutely recommendable little gem, the 5 star rating absolutely deserves. A better value for money will not be found. There I am! My absolute purchase recommendation to all who are looking for a good all-round instrument for travel and "fast-to-hand moments".
