The mobile, modular acoustic system

The SBX Sub is a bass absorber from Sessiondesk's modular SessionbloX system, an acoustic treatment solution designed for changing audio and media production environments. Individual absorbers can be connected like building blocks, and there's a range of optional accessories such as wall and ceiling mounts, stands, feet, and castors, making it possible to adapt the system to a wide range of studio requirements. Alongside conventional wall mounting, the modules can be used to create freestanding acoustic screens for recording rooms, or even complete vocal booths; whatever the plan, the system can be assembled, dismantled, and reconfigured in a short space of time. The SBX Sub features a suspended membrane for trapping sub-bass sound waves, combined with wood fibre as internal absorption material and a PET surface. When it's set up directly next to or on a wall, the module can attenuate frequencies down to around 75Hz – by adjusting the placement in a freestanding configuration, the SBX Sub can be effective at frequencies as low as 30Hz.

Standalone or fully modular

As a dedicated bass trap, the Sessiondesk SBX Sub sits alongside the SBX Core broadband absorber and the SBX Plexi viewing panel as one of the central acoustic elements of the SessionbloX system. Measuring 108×72×12cm, it shares the same format as the other modules and can be used either on its own or in combination with them. An X-Connector is included with each unit for linking the modules together, allowing quick, secure, and tool-free assembly – each section simply slots into the next. As a result, setups consisting of multiple absorbers and accessories such as stands or feet can be modified, expanded, or dismantled at a moment's notice.

Ideal for changing setups

The absorbers in the SessionbloX range are equally well suited to professional studios and smaller home or project studios that often have to adapt their acoustics to different recording situations. One of the key advantages of the modular design is its flexibility for use in temporary installations such as mobile productions or on-location recording sessions. The SBX Sub combines a birch plywood frame with certified Black Forest wood fibres as its absorption material. Its easy-care PET surface is composed of 60% recycled material. All materials used are classified according to DIN EN 13501-1 and meet defined fire-resistance requirements.

The manufacturer's range includes studio desks, speaker stands, rack equipment, and acoustic treatment products, with a consistent focus on a professional combination of practicality and aesthetics. Since being founded in 2012, Sessiondesk has grown from a small workshop project producing custom-made furniture into an international company that supplies customers in more than 30 countries. Product development and design take place in Germany, while manufacturing is carried out in Portugal. The company employs certified timber, low-emission finishes, and a production process designed to conserve resources wherever possible through the use of recyclable materials and packaging.

Flexible acoustic configurations

The Sessiondesk SBX Sub can can be used as a part of a wide variety of SessionbloX setups. As a standalone element – or with the addition of a stand, feet, or castors – the SBX Sub can be freely moved closer or further from a wall to optimise the unit's bass frequency absorption. Both vertical and horizontal orientations are possible. Multiple absorbers can be connected side by side or stacked vertically, while the 3:2 proportions also makes mixed arrangements possible, such as two vertically positioned modules combined with three horizontal units. For balanced room acoustics in control rooms and recording spaces, the key component of the modular system is the SBX Core, which is designed to absorb mid and high frequencies. In larger recording-room installations, the transparent SBX Plexi provides clear lines of sight between performers and engineers.
