Their open construction allows them reproduce a very broad, spatially accurate soundstage, and potential sources of audio interference can be localised precisely, enabling genuinely analytical mixing; to this end, the HD 490s headphones also provide a wholly colourless frequency response across the entire spectrum. Sophisticated technology

The Sennheiser HD 490 PRO, with its high-end 38mm drivers, is capable of reproducing a frequency range of no less than 5Hz to 36.1kHz – an unusually wide spectrum, even for reference headphones. The sound profile has been further optimised thanks to numerous very sophisticated design elements: For instance, the HD 490s' clearly defined, full bass response has been achieved by integrating a special low-frequency cylinder system. Harmonic distortion, on the other hand, is kept to a minimum by an innovative open-frame architecture, which results in a particularly clear and precise sound and minimises resonance. The resultant distortion factor is less than 0.2%, which is as low as it sounds. The ergonomic design, with velour and fabric ear pads and the extra headband pad included in this Plus package, ensures comfort even when mixing for several hours, The hardshell case also provided means users can safely take their headphones with them wherever they go.

About Sennheiser

In June 1945, Prof. Fritz Sennheiser founded the Wennebostel Laboratory, which initially produced measuring equipment. Commissioned by Siemens in 1945, the young company developed the MD-1 microphone, which was launched in 1946. After the development of further microphones, the company was renamed Sennheiser Electronic in 1958. Extremely pleasant

The best thing i can say about these are that they're simply pleasant to listen to. Very comfortable, not fatiguing despite using for long hours. Sound is amazing, very natural. Case is nice and sturdy too, great for travel. The shipping process from Thomann was very quick and great too.

What an UPGRADE

I got my Sennheiser HD 490 Pro to replace an old Audio-Technica ATH-M50 X.
The DIFFERENCE is night and day. Head room, clarity and ability to hear the mix around me. I literally turned around to see where the sound was coming from.
I wish I knew how bad my old headphones were and never used such inferior quality.
They come with free dearVR "virtual studio" plugin. Nothing but cheap and nasty gimmick. Do yourself a favour and DON'T install it. It will make your gorgeous new Sennheiser headphones sound horrible. Trust me or check to see for yourself and quickly uninstall it.

Clean, balanced sound

I've been using these cans for months and they are brilliant for long hours of use cuz they are lightweight and comfy, cans are a little bit narrower than 650s but it is not that of a big deal. Sonic wise they are really transparent and well balanced. Low end is quite impressive for open headphones.
