Power, presence – and still so playable

Sadowsky MetroExpress 21 Hybrid 4 Morado White

The Sadowsky MetroExpress 21 Hybrid 4 combines top-notch build quality with a seriously versatile sound. With a P-style pickup at the neck and a hum-free J-style pickup in the classic '60s bridge position, the Hybrid covers it all, from smooth, flowing grooves to punchy, well-defined riffs – everything today's bass player needs. The okoume body is paired with a roasted maple neck, which gives the bass a very responsive resonance, while the morado fingerboard feels great under the fingers and adds a nice visual contrast to the high-gloss Solid Olympic White finish. The active 2-band EQ with preamp bypass lets musicians flip between modern punch and vintage passive tones with ease. Tough hardware – Sadowsky's lightweight tuners, security locks, and a quick-release bridge, to name but a few of the classic MetroExpress features – rounds things off, making this a properly crafted all-rounder for both stage and studio.

A precision machine

The MetroExpress 21 Hybrid 4 will win over all-comers with its gig-ready features and intuitive controls. Thanks to its 34" scale length, 12" fingerboard radius, and 21 nickel-silver frets, it's a comfortable play, whether it's laying down fingerstyle grooves or going full-on slap. Bassists have got controls for volume, balance, treble and bass to shape their tone just how they like it, and with a push/pull switch they can bypass the active preamp for those warm, passive tones. The Just-A-Nut III nut keeps the Sadowsky's intonation spot-on, and the 19mm string spacing suits pretty much any playing style. Lightweight tuners help keep things nicely balanced, the quick-access battery compartment makes swaps a breeze, and the quick-release bridge means string changes are fast and fuss-free. And it even comes with a gigbag, so it's ready to rock straight out the box.

That's the way I like it

The Sadowsky MetroExpress 21 Hybrid 4 is aimed at players after a quality instrument with a clear, focused tone and top quality materials. The P/J pickup combo really runs the gamut, from Funk and Pop to Rock and Fusion, while the morado fingerboard (a nicely balanced tonewood also known as pau ferro) adds a touch of visual elegance and long-lasting durability. For beginners, the active electronics might feel a bit full-on at first, but more ambitious players will appreciate the Hybrid's artistic range and expressive possibilities. Intermediate and pro-level bassists will find a reliable bandmate here, one which strikes a great balance between ergonomic playability and serious musical versatility.

About Sadowsky

For over 40 years, professional musicians have associated the name Sadowsky with high-end bass guitars, electric guitars, and archtop Jazz guitars. In the late 1970s, Roger Sadowsky opened his own workshop, where he started out repairing and modifying instruments from other brands. In the '80s, he began to develop bass guitars that represented his own unique vision: Soon, the name Sadowsky had a worldwide reputation for quality, thanks in part to prominent clients like Marcus Miller and Will Lee. Roger's legendary inventions include the on-board preamp for bass guitars, which helped create such extraordinary demand for Sadowsky instruments that he eventually made the decision to start producing the Metro line of basses in Japan. In 2019, the German bass specialist Warwick assumed manufacturing responsibilities for the Metro series, ensuring the name Sadowsky will continue to be synonymous with high-quality instruments for years to come.
