I
Structural Weakness and Warranty Disappointment
IsraelCastilloH 14.04.2025
I purchased the GEWA Pure cello case with the expectation that it would provide reliable protection for my instrument. Unfortunately, after only two months of careful use, a crack developed on the lower front part of the lid — an area that, as I later discovered, is significantly thinner and lacks the reinforcement present in the bottom shell.

I handled the case with great care, and there was no impact or mishandling involved. Upon investigating further, I found that other users have reported the same problem, which suggests a structural flaw in the design rather than a one-time defect.

When I contacted Thomann, I submitted a video clearly showing the weakness in the material. Despite this, I was informed that the damage might not be covered under the warranty. The case was sent in for inspection, but weeks passed without clear feedback, and the process has been slow and uncertain.

For an item with this branding, I expected both higher build quality and stronger warranty support. If a case is marketed as professional, it should be able to withstand normal conditions and protect the instrument even in moderate circumstances — especially in a known weak spot.

I believe this product has potential, but I urge other musicians to examine the construction carefully, especially if your instrument's safety depends on it. I also hope the manufacturer takes user feedback seriously and addresses this issue in future designs.

It is definitely a decent case for its price. It contains soft foam pads that protect the cello while the neck is secured by a buckle strap. I also liked the fact it contains two magnetic bow holders that hold my bows very firmly. My favorite part is that besides the 6 locks, it has also a combination lock. The only con I can think of is its weight (4,6 kg). It goes without saying that it's not the best case someone could ever find but it's definitely one of the best cello cases for this price.
