Compact size, big sound

The Genelec 8320 APM is an active two-way studio monitor that delivers the first-class sound producers the world over have come to expect from the Finnish manufacturer. With its signature, stylish housing produced from lightweight die-cast aluminium, this model features two separate amplifiers with a total output of 100W, driving the 4" woofer and 3/4" tweeter to deliver sound pressure levels (SPL) of up to 107dB per stereo pair. In addition to its automatic start function, this speaker features integrated SAM technology, which allows multiple Genelec monitors to be optimised using software, a computer interface, and a measurement microphone. A balanced XLR input allows signals to be fed in without interference, while a protective circuit prevents driver damage by intercepting short-term level peaks. Magnetic shielding is also included as standard.

Impressive range of features

With a frequency range from 55Hz to 23kHz, the Genelec 8320 APM delivers impressive low-end performance for a compact monitor. To achieve this, the speaker uses bass reflex technology, which maximises low-frequency sound pressure and extends the driver transmission range. The (deactivatable) automatic start function detects whether a signal is present and automatically switches the amplifier unit on as required. This makes the speaker easy to operate and helps save energy. Two RJ45 network ports are also provided to integrate the monitor into a GLM network, enabling dynamic frequency adjustments via software.

For the discerning listener

Anyone looking for a monitor speaker with a flat frequency response, adjustable monitoring sound for multiple listening environments, and a spacious, three-dimensional sound from compact speakers will not be disappointed by the Genelec 8320 APM. The speaker is an excellent choice for recording and mixing professionals who need high-quality sound in small spaces. Its housing materials and shape also contribute, minimising resonances and ensuring optimum sound dispersion in multi-speaker setups.

About Genelec

Genelec was founded in 1976 by Ilpo Martikainen. It grew from a family business into one of the world's leading manufacturers of professional studio and broadcasting loudspeakers. To this day, Genelec's loudspeakers are manufactured exclusively in Finland. Genelec offers performance-oriented, neutral-sounding loudspeakers and subwoofer systems for audio professionals and sound enthusiasts, and a combination of innovative technology and design ensure that the range of products is continuously improving. The company is committed to sustainable development and environmental awareness. In 2018, Genelec was awarded the Pro Sound "Company of the Year" award. Genelec speakers are favourites of such recording industry veterans as Obie O'Brien, Michael Carnes, and David Reitzas, as well as of producers like Hardwell, Keith Ross, and Vini Vici.

Ideal for stereo and surround setups

Whether in a small professional studio, home setup, or editing suite, the Genelec 8320 APM delivers outstanding results thanks to its compact dimensions, flat frequency response, and automatic room-adaptation features. It can be used not only as part of a stereo set, but also as a component in a surround setup. Genelec also offers a suitable subwoofer for this purpose – the Genelec 7350APM. When used on resonant surfaces such as a desk or stand, the integrated IsoPod comes into play, decoupling the speaker from its support surface using a combination of rubber feet and connecting bars. Threaded inserts at the rear of the housing provide secure mounting. Genelec also supplies suitable mounting accessories, such as the Genelec 8000-422B Wall Mount.

Why there is not digital input?

The 8020-8320 is a little classic, overall when paired with a Genelec sub.
This monitor have an internal DAC and DSP that works, probably, at 48/24. I said probably cause Genelec don't said nothing about the DAC (?more accurate information is confidential?? ). In this model there is not digital input (AES) so the sound is converted D-A by your interface and again A-D-A by the 8320. This, to my opinion, is a non-sense. It would be enough to have also an analog input giving the possibility to the customer to choose (other brands have this option). For those interested in listening to their own DAC instead of the Genelec's ones there is on the market the old "classic line" without any converter that cost significantly less and sounds great. Instead of the GLM correction software there are many good alternatives.

H
Utterly impeccable for the cost

I'm using these with a 7350 APM (which is required to get the bass extension if you're doing anything below 100Hz), and the quality of sound is flawless. Precise, sharp, revealing, clear. The GLM system and room correction just simply works and provides fantastic control over the monitors, without making standalone use impractical. Lack of AES input is the only problem, fixed by moving to the 8330s. Standalone these lack enough power for high levels of LF but with the 7350 taking everything from 85Hz down there's really no problem at normal listening levels.

Perfect sound

Nothing to say about the audio quality, it's really impressive considering dimensions. You can also make it perfect with GLM3. My only doubt is about the supply : the power cable has some difficulty getting into the socket on the monitor (I think it is in a very uncomfortable place) , sometimes the monitor turns off and on again cause the cable is badly attached. I don't know if the problem is just my case or if others have this problem , but i have this problem with the right monitor since i bought them.

I still believe that it is a very high quality product.

SUPER HAMMER

Hi,
Also ein ganz kurzer subjektiver Bericht:
