The ultimate pickup!
Cosmo F. 15.05.2017
For my liking, needs and tone expectations this pickup has it all. I mean, it is expressive: it just reproduces the sound based on the intensity of one's picking. It's percussive, bouncy, clear, ballsy, grinding. You name it, it has it! I have this pickup both in its 7-string and 6-string configuration. However, I believe the 7-string version has a tad more output. I've tried the Duncan Nazgul but, naahh, it didn't compare to this bad boy and immediately uninstalled it and replaced it with the D-Activator. To summarise this pickup in a few words: it's the dog's testicles!

Excellent
Anonymous 18.11.2014
Bought this to replace the stock bridge pickup in my Ibanez RG7321. Made an excellent difference! I have never used DiMarzio pickups before and didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a single pickup for a guitar that will be used for primarily recording.

The output of this pickup I think from the sound of it has a lower output than the stock Ibanez INF pickups in the RG7321, as on the same gain settings on my amp there was less gain coming out. HOWEVER, tonally it was far superior, not quite a BKP, but a huge improvement over stock pups. Overall it was a lot lot tighter, the bottom end was a lot easier to control and the treble notes sung clearer and sustained for longer.

I normally have Seymour Duncan and EMG pickups in my guitar but I am loving this, highly recommend for any genre of metal players. Excels very well in a lot of modern progressive metal music.

Best Passive pickup for a 7 string
Anonymous 30.04.2014
My guitar originally came with stock pickups, and every guitarist knows that these just won't do. The problem with finding pickups for a seven string guitar is that most of them are Active, while my guitar is passive (Ibanez RG7412). I did my research a bit and after watching a few videos i found what i was looking for. This pickups give my Low B-string a whole new life! Like what you hear with many active pickups, the low B-string has a thud like no other string. The harmonics are Amazing! This pickup can go from a super distortion pickup or a super clean pickup. I prefer Heavy metal so i obviously use this more for distortion. And most 7-strings are for metal.

Bottom line. These are the only passive pickups you could want for a seven string!

Hotter than battery!
Pavels R. 13.01.2014
For many-many years I was a huge fan of active pickups. But with bigger experience I've started looking at passive pickups with more interest. I'm not the man who believes in advertising, but after purchase and installation of the pickup I was very surprised! The pickup is clear sounding and articulate. It brings very bright middle and tremble, but without any loss of low end. The brilliance of the pickup is in the tightness and gain. At the first time I had a filling that I use a noise gate all the way how clear and crunchy it was at the same time, but it was only the pickup. Another cool thing about it is no battery need.

I
it simply improved a lot my guitar sound and joy of playing.
Inspell 18.01.2019
I did change my stock humbuckers on my old seven string guitar (Schecter Damien). It had installed EMG HZ before i bought the Activator. The fuzzy and muddy sound was replaced by something that I did wish a long time ago. Still I have to improve my guitar playing technique now, since of the clarity of the tone. So far no cons, I simply love it how my Schecter sounds now! Highly recommended for pretty much any extreme genre!

Gave a new life to my RG7421
gimmeapill 02.03.2018
Makes a good pair with my RG beater. Best for old school chugs, jumping harmonics, clarity on the low B and balanced volume across the strings = good to go for anything metal.
Warmer than EMGs.
Not as biting or gritty as for example a Duncan Distortion, but way easier to handle on a daily basis (the aggressiveness of the DD can sometimes be exhausting when practicing scales and arpeggios, not quite with this one).
Build construction and packaging are however not as good as the SD aforementioned.
How are the clean sounds? I have no idea ;-)

Love it!

Installed this pickup in my Ibanez RG927QMZ, and sounds killer.
Very versatile pick-up. I play mainly metal, with some clean passages, and just sounds great.

Awesome articulation and clarity
kris.k 28.11.2022
I use it in a Dean RC7X tuned to B standard. The pickup gives good balance when working in lower tuning. You can easily go into drop tunnings without the sound getting muddy. Great articulation and clarity with characteristic Dimarzio bite.

Best high gain pickup Dimarzio makes
T00DEEPBLUE 29.11.2021
This pickup is absolutely brutal. Its extremely well defined and bright with a pretty high resonant peak, making it excel for dropped tunings. Its also a very high output pickup. Doesn't clean up well but splits surprisingly nice
