Fine part with potential ...

tanzteegeklimper, 26.04.2017
I was looking for a matching mouthpiece for my vintage tenor sax with delicate intonation. Many came and went.

I had ordered the Crescent out of curiosity.
I was respectful of the opening of the track (I had reached 6 * holes by now because of my difficulties with intonation), but that turned out to be completely unproblematic. Neat blow, however, it already needs.

I was immediately positively surprised: The sound is zentiert, as if he would "lock in", and very changeable. Low and high notes respond equally well.

It is also challenging - I have the impression that it wants to be "worked out". I mean, the more I play on it, the more possibilities it opens up to me in terms of sound and playfulness (of course, this is the case with all mouthpieces, but with this I feel the potential and the bandwidth is especially great). It can also sing really nice.

Coming from ebonite mouthpieces, getting used to the slim shape takes me quite a long time, the approach needs to change.

The textile ligature I do not think so dolle. Has a rather muffling character, Flageolets do not go so well with it. Will try a Francois Louis ligature.

Incidentally, my model has a blemish. Inside at the transition from stage to chamber it has a semicircular groove of lasing. Does not bother me (I have confirmed the safety of Spielbraten with Ibrahimoglu and another Refacer).

Conclusion:
It suits my snout and my sax perfectly. Even if I would have preferred a cheaper model ...

Great sound, lots of work

Günter283, 23.12.2016
First of all: Great thanks to Thomann, which allows me to test several mouthpieces of the sizes .100 to .110 - I am looking for the metal mouthpiece for life. Currently I play a Hard Rubber, Vandoren Java T75.
Setup: Yanagisawa TWO10, Forestone Jazz Filed MS or Forestone Hinoki M. Style Direction; Pop, rock, occasionally fusion. The plan is to go more towards Latin and jazz.
The Guardala was the big surprise in the test. Actually, I thought the Theo Wannes (Mantra 6 * + 7 *, Shiva 7 *) would make the race among themselves. In terms of feel and ease of intonation, they were also clearly ahead. But the sound! Even while playing, the Guardala seemed to me more balanced, rounder without losing much brilliance. The recording, which I had recorded during the tests, confirmed to me that the Crescent - actually intended for jazz - also shows strength in pop and rock. My bandmates, to whom I sent 5 recordings of the same songs, I left "blind". All had the Crescent in front.
My problem is that the Crescent requires the player the most. Good intonation is not given here. It probably takes much longer to get the intonation safely under control. I do not know if this time will not be too long for me.
I have not finished the test yet; Another TW (Durga, unfortunately with opening 8) and another Guardala with opening 7 * are on the way to me. Let's see if I find my mouthpiece-Gral, or with the Crescent already found.
