The best for high gain solos..!!

byben, 22.01.2018
Really nice pedal, after buying one for a 'Boss only' pedalboard, I was looking for another analog delay, after checking and testing other brands, I finally bought another DM-2w, with this pedal you immediately get this BIG solo sound, not too clean, not too dark..

A must for high-gain solos

AlexandreM, 13.04.2015
I collect analog delays. Inevitably, I immediately became interested in this re-edition of the famous DM2. I still hesitated thinking that he might be sitting in a closet. And then its blackcurrant look with its old-fashioned buttons made me crack. Did I make a mistake? And no! It is even THE big surprise.

TEST:
- Amps: Bogner Ecstasy 20th anniversary custom mounted in 6L6 (and therefore with the top of the parallel effects loop) and Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 2 channels Revision G (the classic with the Schumacher transformers and parallel effects loop) Also in 6L6.
Baffle 4x12 Engl Richie Blackmore signature mounted in Celestion V30 of 1996 so Celestion made in England not like today eh!
- Guitars: ESP Kiko Loureiro SE-100 Japan custom (a Horizon in mahogany and with Seymour splitables double / single) and Gibson LesPaul Standard Tobacco Sunbusrt of 1991 (to Slash therefore)
- Competitors: MXR Carbon Copy, Way Huge Echo Puss, Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man, Lovepedal Echophonic, Malekko Ekko 616, Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail, JHS PantherCub, Jam delay Llama + and finally Solid Gold FX Electroman Copy of the Deluxe Memory man in 9V).
- Volume pedal Ernie Ball between the out of the delay and the return of the loop to manage the level of effect. The loop being at 50% wet / dry.

Objective: to know if this Boss sounds better in sound or in saturated sound? And most importantly, does it drop the signal or not?

Prepared for the solos of death on high-gain?
Yes. This DM2 is made for heavy saturations and it does not drop the signal. We do not lose volume. Bravo. It can thus be compared to the Way Huge Echo Puss and Supa Puss who are the champions in the matter. The Boss colors a little more the sound by erasing a shrill treble, while the Way Huge respect them. But the Way Huge features a tone corrector that the Boss does not have. And the Boss is cheaper. So equality.

In his mind?
This delay is not transparent. Analog, its defects are necessarily its qualities. I do not recommend it for clear sounds. The Seymour Vapor Trail, more accurate is made for a Telecaster in a combo for country. Lovepeadl's Echophonic puts a big slap on the Boss with a LesPaul in his clear. He is champion on this field and he has his own volume, which even allows him to boost the sound.

And the crunch then?
The Boss has a less defined sound than the JHS, the Malekko 616 or the Jam Llama. But these three delays, pedals 100% shop, drop the signal. Their playing field is the crunch or the clean in the studio for psychedelic sounds or blues tasty.

A classic?
Yes. So the Memory Man and his clone the Electroman deliver a sound so legendary that the Boss becomes complementary, not a competitor. It's a great advantage on the Memory Man and its damn 24V power supply and its reverse polarity: here we are at Boss, it's 9V that makes life easier.
Remains the MXR Carbon Copy which erases a little more the treble. As the Way Huge Echo Puss is a kind of high-end Carbon Copy (MXR as Way Huge it's Dunlop), I'd say the Carbon Copy boxing in the category below. There you have to get an idea by testing them. A matter of taste. The Boss is more expensive but allows for more complex delays I find.

For whom this pedal color blackcurrant then?
For shredders who find like me that a TC Electronics sounds too cold. I resold my frigid GeForce and I keep my Flashback only for emulation of the 2290 in clear. I hate this flicker at the end of the note on the Strymon. Even if you choose digital, it is better to have an Eventide TimeFactor that sounds. So here we're looking for a crazy sound, okay?

Buy it?
Let's say that a Boss DM2, a Way Huge Echo Puss and an Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man form a winning triple. If you have all three it is absolute happiness.

The sound?
Videos exist on youtube, but mostly with clear sound. I think it's off topic. Let's say that with the Bogner Ecstasy, I really found a side Steve Vai to this DM2, but warmer than with the Boss DD7 necessarily. And with the Rectifier, bah c'est l'espace! Huge simply. If you're from Zakk Wylde School, George Lynch, Van Halen and Cie, you should like it. Fans of David Gilmour will also find their account. And therefore necessarily all those who play rock or progressive metal.

Conclusion:
This DM2 is clearly a success. But that does not dethrone the Way Huge Supa Puss with its tap tempo, its analog delay of more than a second and its corrector of tone that allows him to adapt to all the situations. The Boss DM2 is at the level of the Way Huge Supa Puss. But in both cases, an amplifier with parallel loop is strongly recommended (or a high-end line mixer) so as not to process the whole signal to keep potato.
