Evans 22" Calftone Bass Drum

Drummer came in for a session with this on and his kick drum sounded like a canon, so I immediately had to go out and get our drummer one. It's thicker so at a higher tension than a standard head its at a lower pitch so it rings very nicely and doesn't get too nasal or midrange-y but still has a lot of character.

If you're into modern kick drum sounds but always found yours a bit lifeless/lacking in character this would be a good option to consider. Not to mention it looks cool and is also not real calfskin, so it's vegan. How's about that?

As we all know, the front head has to sound good but it also contributes to the look of your whole kit.
I honestly bought this from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I needed it for some small club blues gigs and I thought it would give my kit a great vintage look.
It does that but I was also very pleasantly surprised by its nice and warm tone.

I used a pair of these skins when refurbishing an old kick drum into a concert bass drum. Lovely warm sound with a low-end thud, not too many overtones thanks to the coating. Looks great too and from far you would think it's a calfskin (but without all the temperature/pitch problems of animal skin!).
