Measures the distance from the end of the mouthpiece to the beginning of the mouth pipe (GAP)
Developed by Ken Titmus
The GAP measurement allows an estimate of which mouthpiece fits on a trumpet
Too large of a GAP makes the lower register seem stuffy and the upper register may reach a "wall"
Too small of a GAP leaves the lower register too open and leads to poor definition of notes above C```
Missing resistance causes the upper register to become airy or washed out
