USB mic meets 2-channel interface
The Shure MV7i is a dynamic USB-C microphone and fixed two-channel audio interface, optimised for podcasting, streaming, and simple recording setups. Featuring a cardioid moving-coil capsule, it includes a combo mic/line input for connecting a second source – be that an interviewee, an instrument, or any external signal. Both channels can be recorded or streamed directly to a computer, tablet, or smartphone over USB, without the need for an additional interface, and independently monitored via the headphone output with its own monitor mix. Onboard DSP – including Auto Level, Real-time Denoiser, Digital Popper Stopper, and reverb – helps producers deliver a controlled, broadcast-ready sound with minimal setup. The MV7i's all-metal construction and integrated yoke provide a stable, easy-to-position platform, and the touch-sensitive mute control cuts the mic input when required.
Capsule and connectivity
The Shure MV7i's cardioid moving-coil capsule covers a 50Hz–16kHz frequency range, tuned for close vocal work, with a 128dB max. SPL handling the loudest close-miked voice without clipping. Audio is transmitted at 24-bit/48kHz – the sample rate is fixed, which suits streaming and podcast workflows but is worth noting for anyone requiring higher sample rates. The mic's gain is adjustable across a 0–36dB range, manually or via Auto Level Mode; the combo input runs a wider 0–60dB gain range with 48V phantom power, covering dynamic and condenser mics as well as instrument-level signals. Three output modes define how the two channels are routed via USB: Mixdown combines both sources into a single mono signal, Multi-Track transmits two separate channels for further mixing and treatment, and Stereo spreads the line input across the stereo field with the main mic signal at the centre.
Two voices, one cable
The Shure MV7i is ideal for podcasters and streamers in a two-person setup – a host-and-guest configuration where both voices are captured, processed, and streamed from a single USB connection. Auto Level Mode handles gain in real time, adjusting for distance and dynamics, while SmartGate automatically reduces gain on the unused channel between contributions, keeping crosstalk and bleed out of the mix. The fixed 48kHz sample rate and the moving-coil capsule's bias toward close vocal work mean the MV7i is built for controlled podcast and streaming setups rather than full studio tracking. It's also a practical location recording option: A self-contained two-channel rig for field interviews, ambient capture, or any situation where setting up a separate interface isn't viable.
About Shure
The American company Shure began developing microphones during the early 1930s and is one of the pioneers of the audio engineering sector. Models such as the 55 Unidyne – known to many as the "Elvis microphone" – and the SM57 and SM58 which appeared in the mid-1960s are still ubiquitous in live sound production today. They enjoy cult status among musicians and technicians alike. In the 1990s, Shure introduced the first wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems and became a market leader in this field. In addition to microphones, Shure offers a wide range of earphones and headphones for studio and live use, as well as various accessories.
Mix, monitor, control
MOTIV Mix is the Shure control hub on Mac and Windows, giving access to the full DSP stack: tone slider (Dark, Natural, Bright), Real-time Denoiser for fan hum and room noise, Digital Popper Stopper for plosive control, high-pass filter at 75Hz or 150Hz, and three adjustable reverb types (Plate, Hall, and Studio). In Manual mode, gain, compressor, and limiter can be adjusted independently at both the mic and combo inputs. Beyond the MV7i itself, MOTIV Mix doubles as a virtual mixer: It can aggregate other connected Shure mics, computer audio, and third-party software sources into a single stream, extending the setup beyond the two onboard channels when a session calls for it.
