New model – new features
The iD4 MKII USB audio interface from British manufacturer Audient delivers professional audio performance in a compact desktop format, bringing together everything required for high-quality recording in a home studio environment. It provides two inputs, two monitor outputs and two headphone outputs, while A/D conversion supports resolutions of up to 24-bit/96kHz for detailed and accurate sound capture. Alongside direct monitoring and the virtual scroll wheel carried over from the previous generation, the MKII also introduces an audio loopback function, making it possible to record audio from computer applications and microphone sources at the same time. This added flexibility makes it particularly well suited to podcasting, streaming and a wide range of content creation tasks.
Audient's console preamp
The iD4 MKII's rear microphone input is equipped with Audient's in-house Class A console microphone preamp, which delivers up to 58dB of gain and is known for its fast response and neutral sound character. A 48V phantom power switch is conveniently located on the rear panel alongside the microphone connection, making it easy to accommodate a wide range of recording setups. On the front panel, the instrument input is built around discrete JFET technology, recreating the classic input stage found in traditional valve amplifiers and allowing direct connection of instruments fitted with pickups. Adding further flexibility, both headphone outputs can also be used at the same time whenever simultaneous monitoring is required.
Outstanding performance
The Audient iD4 MKII is a compact desktop audio interface that brings together everything needed for high-quality recording in a home studio setting, combining professional performance with a straightforward and space-saving design. Its Class A microphone preamp and discrete JFET instrument input are derived from technologies found in the company's higher-end models, delivering the same attention to sound quality and detail. Further versatility comes from features such as Audient's ScrollControl function, which allows producers to adjust parameters within compatible software directly from the interface. This makes the iD4 MKII particularly well suited to streamlined workflows in podcasting, streaming and music production, with its robust all-metal housing also making it eminently transportable. Considering its balance of performance, functionality and compact form factor, the iD4 MKII stands out as a compelling option for creators seeking a capable and reliable recording solution.
About Audient
The British company Audient has its headquarters in Hampshire and has been developing professional audio equipment since 1997. Their early success was achieved with the large-format, analogue inline console ASP8024, whose simple design and outstanding sound characteristics are still the trademark of Audient's product range today. Since then, they have developed a whole range of audio interfaces, microphone preamps and DAW controllers, while of course still manufacturing high-end consoles. Audient thus combines traditional analogue recording technology with cutting-edge, innovative and user-friendly digital technology for computer-assisted music production. The ASP preamp modules series and iD desktop interface series are among Audients’ most successful products.
New audio loop-back function
The Audient iD4 MKII provides two high-quality inputs, making it possible to record vocals and an instrument simultaneously with ease. A key addition is the Audio Loopback function, which allows programme audio and microphone signals to be captured at the same time, expanding the interface's flexibility for a variety of recording scenarios. Setup is handled through the dedicated Audio Loopback Mixer software, where audio sources can be combined and routed quickly without the need to navigate complex menus. This streamlined approach makes it easy for podcasters to include telephone interviews from external applications in their recordings, while streamers can effortlessly blend game audio into their broadcasts.
