Sire: high quality, low price

Looking for a reasonably priced passive 5-string jazz bass? This could be the one for you. Important side note: the neck on this 5-string is stable, comfortable and a beauty, but it's also really heavy. Tricky to balance, in my experience. I tried it out extensively and found the following:

5 out of 5 in terms of features, especially taking the price into account. The roasted maple neck is sooo comfortable, and it looks really tasty on top of that. Body shape and color exceed their price range as well if you ask me, definitely more impressive in real life than on the promo photo's.

Sound: 3/5. This is a passive bass so the output level and versatility might leave a bit to desire compared to the rest of the Sire V7 for instance. It is okay, but for me it just didn't cut it. This was supposed to be my main 5-string, as I usually play 4, but I couldn't quite get the sound I wanted. 100% down to taste. Credit where credit's due: it does sound like a Jazz.

Build quality: 4/5. As mentioned, the neck feels GREAT. Rolled edges for. the. win! The only thing keeping it from being 5/5, is fine detail.

All in all, I would recommend the V5 but I would also absolutely mention the weight of the neck as the main weak point, which made me decide to return it.

From the Large Varity of basses from Sire, it was hard to take decission what to chose, The V5 was the number One Pick, as Iam a Passive bass player, first impression when see the bass was completely mind blowing, good sound, the fret board is very comfortable, good hardware, Easy to play, without a dout this bass is a good value for money, thank SIRE

Si vous trouvez comme moi que votre V7 a trop de boutons (une electronique trop presente et trop compliquée), alors cette V5 est faite pour vous .La finition est remarquable ( bien plus jolie que la photo du site). Ma V7 est une première génération et j’ai l’impression que le manche est légèrement plus épais sur la V5....Le poids est raisonnable. Elle sonne beaucoup bien mieux qu’une V7 jouée en passif car l’electronique envahissante et l’usage de piles sur la v7 ,font
que je joue toujours en passif et en passif sur la v7
on a très peu de réglages: on a le volume et une balance micros ,les autres boutons sont inopérants ,et surtout le niveau de sortie est supérieur avec une V5 par rapport à une V7 en passif .
Rapport qualité prix imbattable.
Après quelques mois d’utilisation, je reviens compléter mon évaluation, je suis très très content de ma V5,le seul point négatif est le manche qui,j’en suis persuadé, est plus épais que le manche de ma V7 1ère génération ,donc moins confortable......

High quality passive bass

I am not primarily a bass player, but like basses. I originally bought the V7 5-string, but actually wanted a passive version of the bass, because I use GED-2112 preamp and prefer not to use batteries. The V5 is exactly what I want from a Jazz bass. The roasted neck is a nice extra. Construction is flawless, looks great in person, better than in the photos. Comparing to the photos, the fretboard is darker and highly glossy in real life. Selection of woods and finish are perfect, zero quality issues with the bass that I received. This is really a professional bass. I am really happy!
