Very good product but...
SingleMalt 14.07.2019
I would buy these again. But they do not come with instructions. So I was blocked for a while on the simplest step, which is... how to open them (to separate the pieces before installing them on the guitar)...

You pull the round knob vertically away from the lock before and while you slip the mechanism sideways out of its garage. It?s simple as day, once you figure it out, or once you finally find a YT demo.... Then you feel dumb, ?cause it?s so simple. Which is why I hope this little note might help future buyers new to strap locks.

Afterwards, make sure the security lock screws match, or pretty closely match, the original screws and holes in the guitar body. I felt these weren?t the best fit for the Harley Benton RG-Junior BK Rock Series I got for my 6 year-old. His guitar, a 3/4 size, had smaller strap holder holes and screws. But I managed to get these locks to fit just the same. And they certainly feel tight. So I?m confident they will do the job.

In summary, why take the risk of relying only on a shoulder strap to keep your instrument, or your kid?s, off the ground? Better to invest a few euros and 15 minutes to secure your investment.

Still, HB, instructions would be an easy and useful addition...

Super quality and as good as their competitors
Brian2969 29.12.2021
These are excellent value for money and literally cannot fail completely, like the original Schaller design they are based upon.

The main washer is larger than the competitors but this causes no problems. You need to be finish when fully tightening the nut when it’s fitted to the strap to ensure the strap lock U on the strap is the correct way round, and that you don’t get lots of slip on the nut as the metal is not indestructible.

These work great and I have them on guitars from €75 - €4000+ without issue, and gig them professionally.

You can buy 4 sets for the price of the original versions (which are now better than these as they have a retaining bolt for final grip) but essentially these do the same job. They are also interchangeable between Schaller strap buttons and the HB ones.

My first security locks...
Small Shed Luthier 16.01.2022
Well, not exactly, since I bought them for a guitar I'm giving away, but I never tried these before ( always did it old school ) and was in doubt about how they work.

But guess what, it's simple. For those who don't know how it works, here goes:
- first, just pull the ball pin out and slide the "U" part from the strap pin button
- then, obviously, screw the strap pin button to the guitar
- now, remove the bolt and washer from the "u" piece and insert the piece into the strap holes from the inside of your strap
- insert the washer and the nut back, and before tightening it, choose wich direction you want the "u" piece facing ( I look up and found out that some people use it facing down (u) or up (n).

And that's it, just slide the "u" pieces onto the strap pins already in your guitar and just to be sure, give it a nudge on top of the ball pin, although it has a very good spring action.

About it's quality, they're sturdy, secure and the felt washers they come with are excellent, and that's why I'll be buying more of these for my own guitars.

The best security locks ever sold
killdroID 27.02.2025
I bought these security locks "in addition" to the main order - and did not regret it. I installed them on the guitar and bass and stopped worrying about the guitar falling and breaking during a performance or jam, because this had happened before:(
Excellent price and quality destroy all competitors.
The only thing that you need to know is that a small backlash can cause a rattle on the bass if it is tuned low or it is five-stringed (as in my case).
All-in-all - excellent security locks!

Garbage
Niels04 28.10.2024
I love Thomann but goddamn this product sucks. As soon as I try to slightly tighten the bolt onto the thing the thread just breaks off with almost no force at all. Closely inspecting the thread on that thin bolt reveals how weak its built. Absolute garbage how are you supposed to trust a product to hold your expensive guitar if you can't even tighten the fricking bolt.

One of the locks was completely stuck internally with some manufacture glue that was almost impossible to remove. With some twisting with tools and scratching the lock, I managed to loosen up the lock so that it KIND OF works.
Very tough and difficult to thread in that nut to tighten the guitar strap. And even then it went off loose once. I don't know, i'm not that strong but this can't be so difficult. :(

They do, what they say they do - secure the strap in place. Easy to install and use. However, there is slight movement and rattle, when everything is in place. I haven't tried more expensive straplocks, so I can't compare, if that is an issue or not.

1.5 years later, no major issues still
Shervin 12.08.2023
occasionally you'll need to tighten the nut on your strap again and the paintjob isnt the greatest as it feels oily and stains your hands when its brand new. Otherwise does the job and i have them on all my guitars

Not to be slept on.

Better built than my Schaller variants. Best to use the screws that come from your instrument already however. The metal is not so durable on these screws so you might strip it if not careful. Also have bought the silver variant and I highly recommend this to save your bass from mishaps in case of strap failure. Worth even cent.

J
Great product, way cheaper than “the other brand”
Jazz.man 19.02.2022
I have used the fender Grolsch style strap “locks” for a while on my bass, but with the purchase of a guitar (harley benton te-20), I wanted to use my favorite strap with both. The rubber Grolsch style ones keep your strap on but are a pain in the butt to take off.

I bought 2 sets of these, one in chrome and one in black. They both work perfectly together.

I trust my instruments with these. Installation was easy. On my bass (Harley Benton PB-20), I used the screws that came with the strap locks, and on my guitar (Harley Benton TE-20), I reused the screws from the guitar.

You can get 2 sets of these for the price of on set of “the other brand’s) replacement buttons (not even with the strap attachments! what the heck)

Overall, i am super impressed with thomann’s ability to make amazing products at prices the average musician can afford.

p.s. - I put this review on the black and the chrome strap locks, just thought i would put this here.
