Good but too thick for my taste (bass).
TrEr, 19.09.2019
I got these for bass. I rarely use a pick on bass and when I do I normally used the thinner yellow Dunlops. I wanted to try some thicker ones but I much preferred the tone I got with the thinner yellows. These thicker ones made the sound too thin and clanky for my taste. I also got a better, more defined attack with the yellows. I had to play extremely hard to get a tight, defined "click" with these purple ones. With my normal style of picking the attack sounded more like "cloink".

Don't get me wrong, they're good quality picks, just not for me. Maybe if I was in a punk band, played REALLY hard and needed a clanky sound to cut through. For a fuller, warmer bass sound I would recommend going with a slightly thinner pick.

dependable
28.03.2016
I've been using these picks (or the Fender counterpart) for the past 10 years and it's a dependable pick. Initially I started off with the green one and then tried all of them out (from thinnest to this one), and I've settled for the 1.14mm because it's durable and because, apparently, I like rigid picks. The light ones have always irritated me because they bend against the strings.

I usually play them flipped to the side (with the pointy side towards the bridge) and very slightly angled, which gives a nice dark tone and the pick doesn't get 'stuck' in the strings. It also makes pinch harmonics easier for me.

I've used them successfully for shredding on an electric as well as on acoustic guitars. They work great for complicated strumming/picking and they are very durable in the face of heavy acoustic guitar strings.

They do tend to slip off every now and then from between your fingers, especially if you're a bit sweaty, but not too much. I don't think I've dropped one while playing sober in the past 7 years or so.

Overall, this is a very dependable pick.

Flexibility:

Thickness (1.14mm) and material of the picks grant them a high stiffness, but do not make them inflexible.

Grip:
The sides are slightly coarse giving them some grip for starters, which can but doesn't have to be enhanced by further sanding, unless you are playing longer gigs or sweat a lot.

Tip:
The pointed ("sharp") tip allows for high precision runs.

Size:
With a size of about 1.14" (=29mm) from bottom to tip, the picks aren't small, but unless you prefer mini-picks you will be fine.

Tone:
As the "tone" section is often rather a "voodoo"-section I'd like to limit my review to the statement, that flexibility/sharpness/hardness allow "tight" pick-attack.

Recommendation:
Recommended to try for everyone who's not into fat or mini picks. Price is fair.

Exactly what I was looking for
stobbsyboy, 07.11.2018
Been wanting to try purple tortex ever since I found out a couple years ago that's what Slash uses - took a little bit to get used to them, but the attack and the tone was there that I had been looking for - I had been using slightly thicker nylon picks that were close enough, but the tortex were just right on the money, even started using them on bass almost as quickly and I haven't even touched any other picks

Great texture and grip, excellent picks!
freakinpete, 27.09.2018
I have tried these picks, normally I would use the Dunlop Max Grip or some acrylic picks. These have a different, 'soft' feeling texture, and have excellent grip - nearly as good as Dunlop Max Grips. They are very comfortable to hold.
They don't wear too quickly so are quite durable, and have a good tone on the string - highly recommended!

Standard Dunlop feeling and reliability.
Heaventeo, 21.08.2019
You know what to expect from the NO.1 Pick production company. 1.14mm is something that Dunlop has developed for guitarists that Shred is their style. Nice grip also.

My favourite plectrum!
MikeT, 31.05.2013
I'm a full time musician and long ago settled on the Tortex... like many guitarists I've experimented with brands and thicknesses but have used these little beauties for years. The only problem I have is although I buy many multipacks they always seem to vanish, lost and never to be seen again! Maybe I should check the washing machine. ;)

Rock!
HelanderiX, 02.04.2018
Grippy, stiff, durable picks! I jump between 1mm and 1.14mm Tortex depending on the feel, string gauge or tuning, and these are my most used picks by far.

I use them for the last 15 years ! and still like them ! I was experiencing at first with 0.9mm strings but looks like they can take even 0.11mm effortlessly. Good shredding !:)

The Best
Callum Fogarty, 14.02.2019
These are in my opinion the perfect pick. They are exactly the right thickness and are easy to grip. The only downside is that they ware down after about a week.

Love the tortex.
Robert487, 01.06.2018
I've been buying dunlop tortex picks for years going up though the colours every ten years or so.
They suit my playing style and to be honest i can't see me changing any time soon.
Multi packs are still the most cost effective for me and this pack is no different.
Excellent picks that have a friend for life! haha!

simple and effective, my favourite picks
Jimifeed2, 12.11.2018
I constantly try new picks, but I always get back to the Dunlop Tortex Standard 1,14: they offer a good grip, reasonably priced, last reasonably long and allow precise picking (including strumming). No complain about it, I will buy them again (normally a batch per year)

Take your pick
RobM, 08.01.2018
Very strong and durable, gives good punchy-sounding chords and allows clear and accurate picking. The coating gives an excellent grip even with sweaty fingers and the purple colour makes it easy to find where I left them! My pick of choice for years now. Great value and service from Thomann as always.

Perfect for B standard
Herr vonundzu, 21.03.2018
I moved up from Dunlop 1.0 mm picks as I was unhappy with the attack on heavier gauge strings. The Tortex doesn't slip and has a great feel to it. Good for slides and scrapes too. Pinched harmonics are clear and easy to play.

Awesome Picks
JoshV, 07.12.2013
I love these picks, they have a great grippy material that is especially good for me as I have a tendency to drop picks, and they feel much better than your average plastic pick. My only problem is that after a few uses the logo and design starts to fade.

A durable bunch of picks.
Jarno S., 01.09.2014
People use different picks for different reasons. So writing a review out of certain perspective would be no good. But, what I can say about these picks is that they're durable. No matter how hard I've been picking my 5-string bass, these picks haven't snapped or anything, and they wear down quite slowly. And the grip feels amazing, I've had issues with picks that they just slide off of my fingers if my fingers happen to sweat. These don't. Only bad thing I have to say about them, is that the ink from the print might make your fingers messy, but I've yet to see a pick that doesn't have that particular issue.

Quality picks
08.03.2015
This was my pick of choice for several years. They don't slip and they last fairly long. I use the 1.14 which has just the right amount of stiffness for my taste. I like the Tortex Standard because they work for both single note runs and strumming. Since the material is not super glossy the pick does add its own thing to the sound. Whether that is good or bad is totally up to the player I guess.

I've recently switched to the new Tortex III and am loving those because of the pointier tip so I will probably stick with those from now on.

Great Pick, but wears out Quick
Stageman, 17.07.2017
I play professionally, typically 2-3 hours per show, several times per week. I play an acoustic guitar very loudly, unamplified. I use this pick to get a good tone and good volume, and it's a wonderful thickness and curve. The only problem is that after perhaps 5 hours of playing, the tip wears down and I must get a new one.

This pick is great -- if you play super loud / often, purchase many of these and discard the old ones, or look for another pick material. ;)

Geco, 09.04.2018
I ordered these picks for a friend. I play using the 0,73 and 0,88 (yellow and green) picks but the quality and durability is great on all the Tortex series.
