Seymour Duncan TBPR-1B P-Rail Tremb Black

Bought this P-rails trembucker for the bridge position on my Reverend double agent w. The neck p90 was great but the bridge humbucker was neither bright enough to be a great match for the neck nor ballsy enough for lead. The P-rails is first and foremost a great p90. I think it's the only SD p90 with an Alnico V magnet. It sits beautifully with the Reverend neck pickup. Then you have the bonus of the rail pickup giving much more of a strat feel both on its own and especially when mixed with the neck. And, as if that wasn't enough, all the power you need from a humbucker with the two halves in series. It's taken the guitar to the level it really should have been in the first place. Incidentally if you're doing this on a Reverend, stick to the standard SD wiring (green earth, black hot) and it will be in phase with the Reverend neck pickup.

Aber leider ist er nicht meins. Die Idee war es einen splittbaren PU zu haben. Also serieller HB und P90 gesplittet. Der Vorteil den ich mir im Besonderen Versprach war dass die Differenz im Output zwischen beiden Schaltvarianten nicht ganz so drastisch ausfällt wie bei HB-SC Splittschaltungen. Der Plan ging ganz und gar auf. Weitere Schaltungen habe ich btw. gar nicht erst versucht. Grund für meine Unzufriedenheit ist schlichtweg der wahnsinnig mittige HB-Sound. Während der P90 einfach fantastisch klingt, als HB ist das Klangbild zu tiefmittig geprägt. Ich spiele eine Rockgitarre, clean, crunch und mit mehr Zerre - aber nie so wirklich Highgain. Im Crunch ging es in Ordnung aber selbst da klang alles bedeckt, fast als hätte jemand eine Federbett über mich oder den Amp geworfen. Parallel wäre natürlich noch eine Option gewesen, ich denke aber diese starke Betonung würde auch in dieser Schaltvariante nicht verschwinden und da mein urspünglicher Plan mit den Lautstärken ja so gut aufging, habe ich außerdem Zweifel dass diese Schaltung dann nicht wieder andere Lautstärkeprobleme mit sich bringt. Zumal ich diese nicht ohne Löten und nur mit Lüsterklemmen hätte machen können, und angelötet zurückschicken dürfte sogar die riesige Kulanz von Thomann sprengen...

Le P-Rail combine, pour ceux qui l'ignorent encore, un simple bobinage de type P-90 à un autre simple de type "Rail" (typé plutôt Fender). Chacun des bobinages peut être joué séparément en splittant le micro, ou bien les deux peuvent être combinés pour obtenir l'équivalent d'un humbucker, câblé en série ou en parallèle.

Le plus important est que le son est au rdv. Les simples sont convaincants, le P-90 bien épais, tout en restant bien clair, bien défini. La combinaison "humbucker série" arrache ce qu'il faut. Les sons Fender sont très convaincants aussi. A noter que je n'ai installé qu'un micro chevalet sur une Charvel San Dimas. Mais la palette de son s'étend de façon spectaculaire. On obtient en particulier des sons Strat très crédibles avec le sélecteur de micros en position centrale et le simple "rail", ce qui était impossible avec le humbucker Seymour Duncan originel. Je suis donc très satisfait du résultat.

Attention, toutefois, au montage. Le micro est plus épais qu'un humbucker standard et sa pose dans une guitare de type Strat (pour lequel la version "trembucker" est spécialement conçu) peut nécessiter une défonce (prévoir le budget lutherie). C'est ce qui m'est arrivé avec la San Dimas (made in Japan), il est vrai équipée de façon très sommaire.

Pour profiter des différents sons sans percer, poser d'interrupteurs, push-pull et autres machins difficiles à câbler, Seymour Duncan propose un système d'interrupteurs pré-installés dans un cadre de micro baptisé "Triple Shot". C'est pas cher, facile à poser, discret et ça fonctionne parfaitement. Très très chaudement recommandé.

Min sitter i en HPD-strata och är kopplad sc/p90/hb via en treläges microswitch. Som humbucker låter den mycket bra, en av de bättre jag provat! I P90 läge så får man en boost i diskanten och en lite råare ton. Svaga punkten är som singlecoil. Det låter absolut inte dåligt men blir tydligt en kompromiss. Rekommenderas!
