ObsidianWire SC MKII Solderless Harness

I got this to completely redo the electronics of my epiphone Les Paul classic.
Remember, you will need to widen the small sized push-pull pot openings on your epiphone. Non push-pulls don’t need rework.
Presentation is really nice. I was confused at first because there is no CTS mark on the pots. Switch is not switchcraft, don’t buy switchcraft switch tips, they won’t fit. Good thing is the set includes cream switch tip. It feels exactly like epiphone switch, but the nut is definitely not metric. Cabling is not premium braided or cloth wire but looks reliable.
Okay, after the looks and titles, it works perfectly. It literally took me minutes to install the harness. The wago connector is really easy to work with. Switch and jack cables are nicely thinned for very easy installation. Grounding is so much easier than other solderless harnesses, especially if your pickups have braided wires. 50’s and 60’s switches work perfectly. From now on pickup change will be a breeze.
I would recommend making the braided and ground connections before installing the pcb into the body. Once you’re all set, it is really easy to finish the connections.
To summarize, I don’t think this is an extremely needed upgrade to a stock epiphone with full sized pots. For gibsons, pcb’s on tributes or studios feel more premium than this. If you are not good at soldering like me and try something different every once in a while, you can go for it. It is still a very high quality and well made harness that would not let you down.

In den letzten Jahren habe ich mehrere Pickup-Wechsel an meiner Gibson Special (mit Humbuckern) vorgenommen. Obwohl ich das Löten hinbekomme, wurde die Situation im Elektronikfach nicht wirklich schöner. insbesondere die großen Masselötpunkte stellen ein Problem dar, so dass sich ein leichtes Brummen einstellte. Die Potis sind waren nach 15 Jahren auch nicht mehr ganz perfekt.
Somit war ich auf der Suche nach all dem Material, das man für eine Revision benötigt und bin dann auf die Komplettlösung von ObsidianWire gestoßen.
Inzwischen ist alles eingebaut und funktioniert sehrt gut!
Die Maße sind perfekt - alle Achsen passen in die vorhandenen Löcher einer LP. Die Kabel halten gut in der Steckleiste. Und man kann sie ja auch leicht neu positionieren.
Die Masse läßt sich auch gut an die vorgesehenen Schraubkontakte anbringen. Achtung: Beim Ausbau der Alterlektronik darauf achten, dass man die Massekabel (Erdung) nicht zu kurz abschneidet. Dann kann es eng werden, bzw. habe ich ein Kabel verlängern müssen.
Die Verarbeitungsqualität des ObsidianWire Austausch-Set ist sehr gut. Kleiner Abstrich ggf. bei den Potis, die nicht ganz so satt drehen, wie mien bisherigen - also eher die leichte Variante. Aber sie sind sehr genau einstellbar über den ganzen Regelweg tut sich etwas.
Fazit: Gute Lösung für den Ersatz alter Elektronik. Durch den Kompletttausch aller Komponenten (auch der Toggle Schalter und die Anschlussbuchsen sind dabei) verschwinden alle mögliche Probleme. Und Löten muss man auch nicht mehr. Das Produkt ist somit sein Geld wert.
