Changed my mind

EDIT: After a couple of months, I chose to replace these pickups again. Not sure it only has to do with the low output but they just ended up being far too bright for my taste. Definitely some ear-piercing frequencies that were impossible to dial out. Was okay clean or through a pushed amp but not with mid-gain or more. They definitely take out the growl of your guitar and turn a Gibson into a very bright Fender. Not what I was looking for. I found a different set now, custom-made in the US. If you don't want to play just clean I'd advice you to go with a slightly higher output and less highs. Or pick something much darker in sound than blackface amps or vintage Marshalls.

Here's my original review for reference:

I chose the Lollar 50s Wind to replace the stock Gibson P90s in my Gibson Les Paul Special. I think the originals sounded good, but the mid-focus was just too much for me. It messed with most amps in a way I didn't like for the type of music I play. The stock pickups are great to drive an amp and for heavier and highly distorted music, but I felt it was almost impossible to get a nice clean tone. Also, the stock neck pickup was way too boomy. In order to make it work, I had to turn down the bass so much that it didn't sound good with the bridge PU anymore. The Lollar 50s solved these problems. They can get extremely clean but also have a nicer crunch, at least to my ears. I am talking garage rock, blues, and classic rock. They now definitely sound closer to PAF humbuckers (which were historically voiced to sound like 50s P90s, so that's no surprise). The only downside is that I felt the higher output of the stock pickups fit my fuzz pedals better, but I'm okay with that since I gained a much more versatile guitar.
