KMA Audio Machines Guardian of the Wurm Dist.

Bonne pédale robuste et intuitive.
L'égalisation est un réel plus pour modéliser le son typé "métal" de cette pédale.
Le noise gate est efficace et il peut être utilisé séparément avec une autre pédale de saturation.
La saturation de cette pédale est bonne et la sélection du jeu de diodes est bien réussie.
Néanmoins, il manque un boost à cette pédale pour gagner en gain.
De ce fait, je l'utilise dans la boucle d'effets de ma tête d'ampli afin que le canal overdrive apporte le gain manquant à cette pédale : Au niveau du son, le résultat devient alors percutant et agressif.

N'ayant jamais eu le HM-2 classique je ne peux comparer la Wurm avec l'originale, cependant il y a multitude de comparaisons sur le net.

La multitude de réglage peut en rebuter certain, pour moi c'est l'une des forces de cette pédale.
Le switch de clipping, l'EQ très puissant et le blend permettent de bien sculpter le son.
Le gate fait aussi bien le taf que l'ISP decimator II g-string et s'avère utile dans certains contextes : J'aime bien la stacker avec une autre disto pour lui rajouter plus de poil (avec une fat metal pro II d'amptweaker c'est un régale !)

When I plug first in my direct setup pedal. It was good feeling when I play power chords. My first thought was, did I summon Satan? It gives death metal sound in my simple and cheap setup. It is my first HM-2 clone pedal. I connect the KMA Guardian into Joyo American(bypass cab sim) and IR pedal. I don't own similar to this. It is better to stacked this pedal with preamp distortion/crunch instead of clean or FX loop to achieve metal sound. IMO.
EQ: The LOW and HI-MID are responsive. You can achieve chainsaw sound with LOW is 90% and max HI-MID. But I notice the mud with my setup if the LOW and VOLUME are maxed. After randomly play with the settings. I find that the volume is best with noon and gain is 9 o’clock. The L-MID can scooped or boost the mid depends on the band and HIGH can tame the trebly amplifier.
Features: There are plenty of options using the combinations of EQ and switches. It is versatile that you can play any rock genre. The gate is useable in less than 75% because it cuts the guitar sound if more than that.
Hardware: I like the regular size knob, it feels smooth and the slider EQ also has lock in the middle. After randomly experiment with footswitch. When I try to turn OFF the footswitch, the switch is turn ON again. But that is rarely occasion. The soft footswitch is nice because you don’t need to push harder to turning on.
Handling: It takes 4 business days in my country to arrive and it arrives with deformed box. Luckily, the package and item was not harm.
Design: In my taste, it is cool looking pedal. It is not big at all. It is twice the size of regular pedal. It looks boutique pedal at first look.
Downside: The LED in gate is slightly brighter when turned on. It is slightly lower gain that the Boss HM-2 but in a good way. Because you can use higher gain amplifier without making noisier. I notice the volume difference when switching into another voice. The A-S is the loudest in three of them.
After playing for a month. I think It is best to use the blend option when using higher distortion to retain the flavor of your amplifier. I recently bought the Revv G3, it is best combine with the KMA Wurm of the Guardian. It screams with rage, the sound is mid-focused due to G3 and heavy when using blend. The gate is nicely removes the noise without making tone suck. It is very fast compare with noise gate built-in to my compressor. I will update this after I try the FX-loop. I like the Wurm EQ options too, it is different chainsaw type but it is more bass-y and less gain. Maybe it is for bass guitar? The clip changes the gain types, I like the Si(Silicon) for riffing and the A-S(Asymmetric) for soloing.
Conclusion: It is completely versatile pedal and it does the job. But it is still expensive for some. Overall this surpassed my expectations.

Was haben KMA da für ein geniales Pedal abgeliefert!
Ich hatte vorher schon den Wurm, der ja an und für sich ein guter HM-2 Klon ist, aber im Grunde nur einen bis eineinhalb Sounds kann. Kettensäge und dreckiges High Gain.

Ganz anders hier beim Guardian of the Wurm.
Wo soll ich anfangen? Am besten beim Clipping Wahlschalter. Ein Problem des HM-2 Sounds war für mich schon immer der arg künstliche Charakter des Zerrsounds. Alles klingt etwas gepresst und vor allem bar jeglicher Dynamik. Mit den beiden Clipping Alternativen (Asymmetrisch Silizium und ohne Clipping) kann das Pedal plötzlich atmen und brüllen, wo vorher nur ein heiseres Raspeln war. Mir gefällt vor allem der asymmetrische Modus sehr gut, aber auch "ohne" Clipping wird noch genug gezerrt, ist also nicht nur für Bass gut, wie in der Werbung für das Pedal oft betont wird.

Fantastisch für Soundtüftler sind auch die frei zugänglichen Frequenz-Poti der vier EQ-Bänder. Diese waren beim Wurm noch als mini Potis auf der Innenseite des Pedals ausgelegt. Jetzt sind sie an die Oberfläche gekommen und sorgen für schier endlose Klangwelten im Handumdrehen. Besonders im Mittenspektrum kann man da echt viel machen, vor allem, weil sich Hoch- und Tiefmitten im Spektrum sogar überschneiden. Wer dann noch ein zusätzliches Mittenband haben will, stellt am EQ-Style Schalter einfach auf beide Schaltkreise und hat dann auf den Hochmitten die Frequenz des HM-2 fix, kann aber mit dem Frequenz-Poti quasi ein zweites Hochmitten Band daneben "aufmachen". Schwer zu erklären, die Homepage des Herstellers hilft da weiter.

Das fantastischste Werkzeug auf dem Pedal ist aber definitiv der Blend-Regler. Damit kann das Clean-Signal beigemischt werden und das wirkt Wunder! Hier will ich noch einmal kurz auf die Dynamik zurückkommen, die ich Eingangs erwähnt hatte. Viele Verzerrer, und da ist der Wurm eben keine Ausnahme, klingen weniger wuchtig als der Amp alleine. Beschäftigt man sich mit der Thematik Distortion vs. Overdrive, kommt man deshalb unweigerlich an den Punkt wo der Satz fällt "am besten klingt immer noch der natürliche Overdrive des Amps". Das hat damit zu tun, dass die meisten Zerrpedale die Dynamik des Amps schlucken und der Amp-Sound nicht mehr "atmen kann". Die Verzerrung des Pedals klingt "künstlich". Mit dem Blend-Regler kann ich das umgehen, indem ich den Amp mit zusätzlichem Clean-Signal füttere. So etwa ab 13 Uhr hat man dann das Klangvolumen des Verstärkers, plus die Säge oder eben klangliche Vielfalt des Pedals. Großartig!

Am wenigsten glorreich ist beim Guardian ausgerechnet der Guardian selbst, also das Gate. Das funktioniert zwar ganz hervorragend und ist wirklich irre schnell, aber wenn ich es so weit aufdrehe, dass die Säge nicht mehr von selbst quietscht und kreischt, kommt auch mein Gitarren-Signal fast nicht mehr durch. Das hängt aber sicherlich auch stark vom Druck der Tonabnehmer ab, meine sind eher weniger Hot. Außerdem muss man den Guardian ja auch nicht immer auf Anschlag drehen und hat dann auch so fast keine Störgeräusche. Toll wiederum ist, dass das Gate und der Wurm separat geschaltet werden können. Das Gate kann damit auch solo genutzt werden.
Apropos Schalten, der Guardian hat Soft-Switches und ich finds gut.

Fazit: Ein zugegeben nicht ganz billiges Pedal, das aber den Aufpreis vom Wurm mehr als Wert ist. Aus dem sehr guten HM-2 Klon wird so eine veritable Soundmaschine die weit mehr kann als nur Kettensäge.
