Gretsch Reverend Horton G6120 RHH

Elle est aussi belle qu'elle sonne bien !
La qualité de fabrication est remarquable, le vernis celulo est magnifique, la table sonne super bien, et les TV jones sont juste parfaits. Les sons claires sont cristallins, les grains sont sont ronds, les grosses saturations sont à éviter !
Le chevalet "adjusto-matic" est pas terrible et génère des buzz (c'est assez décevant) , j'ai commandé un "rocking bar" qui devrait régler ce point.

I was looking for Gretsch 6120 for some time and considered at first SSLVO. However after doing a lot of research in the internet I decided to go for RHH model since it has the tonepost and the top should be more "free" in a traditional way with more emphasis on mids (as opposed to the trestle bracing in SSLVO). The looks of the pre 59 neck was also appealing :)

I wanted a versatile guitar I could use playing many different styles though I primarily bought it to play rockabilly. I have to say that it really is very versatile and can successfully replace my strat (plus add the twang) on many gigs although filtertrons are somewhat fatter sounding obviously. I has really comfortable neck, though I'm used to having fatter necks - this one is medium in my oppinion. I don't have any serious tuning issues with moderate use of bigsby. Of course a really extensive use of bigsby makes it go out of tune but I guess it's the issue with all of them.

I was little concerned about feedback (am playing usually with open back 18w tube combo amp), but so far haven't had problems with that. Of course it depends a little on your positioning regarding the amp.

After two weeks of playing at home plus three gigs it already has started to open up nicely though it was very promising right out of the box.

The setup on this guitar was really well done and the guitar was almost in tune when I received it. The workmanship is also top notch. I own a few custom shop Fenders and Gibsons, the workmanship and setup quality right out of box hasn't been so good with none of them. This is not my first 6120, about ten years ago I owned one with dynasonic picups from the end of the nineties (also made in Japan) but I have to say this one is superior in almost every aspect - sound, sustain, workmanship, feedback resistance...

All in all it is a really very good quality and versatile instrument. Thank You Gretch, thank You Thomann!

So ein Instrument zu besitzen ist schon etwas besonderes. Natürlich ist es wie alles im Leben Geschmacksache, jedoch trifft diese Gretsch es für meinen Geschmack auf den Punkt: Wunderschöne Kopfplatte, Sperzel Mechaniken, 50' s Tremoloarm, die wunderschönen Griffbrettinlays, das "G-Brand" die herrliche Western maple Stain Lackierung die je nach Lichteinfall einen immer wieder in den Bann ziehen kann, wunderschöne Cremefarbige Bindings...und natürlich die fantastischen TV-Jones PU'S. Ich habe noch eine 6120TM aus 1994 und dazwischen sind Welten - d. h. nicht das eine besser ist als die andere, jedoch habe ich wirklich 2 Unterschiedliche Instrumente, die nur auf den ersten Blick gleich zu sein scheinen. Der Body ist einen Hauch dicker, die Gesamtgröße jedoch wunderbar handlich. Ein echtes Playergefühl macht sich breit. Das Pickguard in transparent ist nach meinem Empfinden nicht so wertig, tausche ich eben aus oder man lackiert es rückseitig nach Geschmack.

Das einzige Problem, bevor ich diese wirklich tolle Gitarre über den grünen Klee lobe, ist die Brücke: Die Intonation lässt sich zwar prima einstellen, jedoch bleibt die Saitenlage trotz Halseinstellung hoch, oder man die störenden "Buzzer". Beides bei dieser Preisklasse nicht einzusehen. Ich habe eine Gretsch Rockin Bar Bridge aufgesetzt (passende Löcher für die Pins beachten!) - und habe ein unbeschreibliches tolles Spielgefühl erhalten...! Stimmstabil, variantenreich im Sound - von jazzig, über bluesig...vom Country Twang bis zum "Brett"...und natürlich echte 50's Rockabilly Sounds...ein Traum!

Alles in allem: Es ist ein unbeschreiblich schönes Instrument welches die Fotos gar nicht richtig darstellen können, es umgibt den Spieler mit einem Gefühl der Wertigkeit was ich bei kaum einer anderen Gitarre erlebt habe, die "Ausrüstungsgegenstände" sind der teureren Brian Setzer Hot Rod Seie gleichzusetzten...Nahezu makellose Verarbeitung, atemberaubend! Es ist eine Wertanlage, eine Liebe, eine Gretsch...!!

NACHTRAG 2012:
Mittlerweile habe ich die Gretsch längere im Gebrauch und muss feststellen das die so hoch bewerteten TV Jones PU's den Gretsch Filtertron nicht das Wasser reichen können. Die TV'S klangen im Vergleich drucklos und dünn. Nur bei extremer Lautstärke richtig gut. Irgendwas fehlte immer....Ich habe daher Filtertrons montiert und muss sagen: Jetzt klingt sie fett, glockig, klar und definiert mit der richtigen Prise "Bumms" wie sich das für eine Gitarre dieser Größenordnung gehört! Desweiteren habe ich die Brücke durch eine Rollerbridge ersetzt. Nun ist es eine perfekte Kombi mit hervorragender Bespielbarkeit und einem sagenhaftem Sound - DEM Gretsch Sound!

Hace 3 años que la recibí. Es una buena guitarra. Especialmente bonita al sol.
Salvo un problema con el mástil, la construcción es impecable. En la unión con el cuerpo, el mástil se curva, no pudiéndose enderezar con el alma. Ello obliga a aumentar la acción para evitar los zumbidos.
Afina y entona fantásticamente. Tiene un sonido desenchufada mejor que el de muchas acústicas, con gran proyección. Las pastillas te dan lo que buscas, puro sonido gretsch. El bigsby funciona sin problemas, y me parece sencillo de encordar.
Es muy versátil. Además de rockandroll, jazz, suena perfecta como clásica y cualquier estilo de ganancia media.
Es muy cara, pero como el RHH no es muy famoso en europa, su precio es más bajo que en los EEUU.
