10 Singer-songwriters to follow in 2020

Singer-songwriters are an important part of the music industry as there are a great number of them from different musical genres and they keep offering new music for us every day. We know we said there are many of them, but we would like to introduce you 10 singer-songwriters (both known and less known) who you should keep an eye out for this year. Who knows, you may find your new favourite artist(s)!

Lewis Capaldi

Lewis Capaldi is one of those success stories which doesn’t stay in history books as a shooting star. Not many people knew about this 23-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter before his massive hit ”Someone You Loved” which has now over 1,1 billion streams on Spotify only. He almost won the song of the year Grammy for that song but lost it to Billie Eilish’s ”Bad Guy”. However this very ordinary guy from Scottland is worth to follow as we can expect great stuff from him!

Celeste

Winner of the BRITs Rising Star Award this year, is the alluring and talented Celeste, Brighton’s American–born British 25 year old soul singer songwriter. Earning comparisons to the likes of Amy Winehouse with her heartfelt textured vocals, her music blends soul and jazz-tinged blues over subtle R&B melodies. Suffice to say Celeste is definitely one to follow.

Kaash Paige

Success has come quick for this 19-year-old R&B and Soul artist. Her hit ”Love Songs” went viral in TikTok which also gave some boost for her debut album ”Parked Car Convos”. You might think her success won’t last, but this young artist has been making music with her fathers production equipment since she was a child. At first scared to make her own music but after experimenting on her own she quickly turned her hobby to a dream. As this young star is now rising, the best word to describe her is ”organic” and we can see her doing her own thing which is exactly the thing she will be remembered of.

Fantastic Negrito

After a rediscovery of roots music, Xavier Dphrepaulezz reinvented himself as Fantastic Negrito. And with not one but two Grammy awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album under his belt he continues to reinvent himself musically: modern blues to hip hop to neo-soul and psychedelic rock. His spiritual and political lyrics are wild and authentic and he has a stylistic flair in fashion to match. Definitely one to shake up 2020!

Dayglow

Bedroom pop has never been hotter than now and Dayglow (aka Sloan Struble) knows it. This 20-year-old former farmboy introduced the name Dayglow to us with the album ”Fuzzybrain” which is a 10-track album recorded by Struble only and entirely in his childhood bedroom in Aledo, Texas. The album has been streamed nearly 50 million times on Spotify. Due to his success Struble has put his college education on a break to make some more fantastic music for us. Can’t wait to see what comes next from him!

Jade Bird

Strapped with an acoustic guitar and a confidently raw and robust voice, is the amazing Jade Bird. South Wales singer passionate about traditional songwriting. Broken relationships and heartbreak are not uncommon in her country style story driven lyrics, but her sound is far from traditional. Bridging the gap between country folk and soulful indie pop, she adds a punkish approach to her music, drawing inspiration from the likes of Patti Smith and Alanis Morissette.

Christone ”Kingfish” Ingram

It needs to be said: We need new young artists who play the Blues in it’s raw and powerful form! And this is exactly what the only 20-year-old Christone ”Kingfish” Ingram is doing. He published his debut album ”Kingfish” in 2019 and has already been praised by the legendary Bootsy Collins, performed with the rapper Rakim and also rocked some of the biggest stages! If you miss the old blues make sure to follow this young star whose singing is inspired by Muddy Waters and whose guitar playing is refreshing and original.

Dominic Fike

With his distinct voice and unique sound that meshes indie pop, rock and modern hip hop, Dominic Fike received instant praise by the likes of DJ Khaled and Khalid. The guitar playing, singer-songwriter and rapper from Naples, Florida’s EP, “Don’t Forget About Me, Demos”, which he recorded during house arrest, notoriously stirred up a bidding war between major labels right until he landed an alleged $4 million deal with Columbia Records. Dee White

Country music has changed a lot from the early days, but Dee White remains somewhat loyal to the original guitar-driven Southern Country. This Alabama native comes to the picture in well-tailored suits and with music that resembles the old country-greats. His latest album ”Southern Gentleman” was produced by The Black Keys frontman Daniel Auerbach and also published by his label Easy Eye Sound, which you can tell. Yebba

Abbey Smith professionally known as Yebba is Arkansas’ Brooklyn based singer songwriter and Grammy winner for Best Traditional R&B Performance. With her absolutely incredible unique voice and style, Smith brings gospel and neo jazz together. She has notably collaborated with a number of artists, pairing with Mark Ronson in “Don’t Leave Me Lonely Where Do You Go?”, as well as Ed Sheeran in the strikingly emotional song “Best Part of Me”.
