Thomann Zfan Fairy Ocarina AC 12-H C3

This was my first ocarina. I picked it because had seen favorable reviews of this ocarina maker (Hans Rotter at Ocarina Musikhaus). That it's also beautiful and came at an affordable price for a non-plastic ocarina was definitely a contributing factor.
It is a beautiful-looking alto c ocarina with a design that any Zelda fan will understand the tribute, without using the specific triforce symbol from the games. The golden trefoil symbol can be appreciated in itself as well.
I would describe it as an ocarina on the louder side when it comes to the sound. The holes for the left hand are fairly big for me who's got pretty small fingers for an adult, but I can still cover them. I believe that it is the size of the holes in relation to the size of the chamber that makes it sing louder, and it can be pretty tricky to make the highest notes sound clear, given how it requires pretty high breath pressure.
I have played this ocarina for over a year now and gotten to know it well. I use it mainly for confident and energetic songs, which works well with its sound.
This was my first ocarina, and in retrospect I realize that with its breath pressure and tricky high notes it provided me with a bit of a challenge as a beginner, but I appreciate it; because this is the default I learned when I begun, I usually find other, more advanced ocarinas fairly easy to pick up.
In other words, recommended for beginners who don't mind a bit of a challenge.

Let me start out by saying how nice this ocarina looks, the dark blue gloss and glaze is immaculate, and the golden fairy emblem really is gorgeous. The ocarina itself definitely looks so much more pretty in person, which is an amazing plus, considering it already looks great in the promo images. For the sound, it is great for an Alto C ocarina- at this price range. The only drawback is that the high notes of this ocarina take some good practice, and good airflow. Strong, precise accurate breath flow is going to give you the most stable high notes for this ocarina. The higher register is a bit airy compared to a lot of other C3 ocarinas I own, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not the best ocarina for beginners, but an amazing addition, in terms of both aesthetics and sound. I love this Zfan ocarina. Thanks!

I bought it to play along with guitar and cajon, on the low notes its great, but the high notes feel a bit out of pitch, and in my opinion it is better to decorate it somewhere rather than play it.

For learning I would go for a plastic one as reviews show that it has better pitch and sounds better overall.

It has a nice case though and the book is awesome ^^

Personally I would not recommend this one, but do your research first (youtube, google etc etc). Better go with what sounds good and when you get good at it, go for a pricy one ;)
