Utmärkt plektrumskydd för en modifierad PJ-bas
Ulf Kronman 27.07.2023

I ordered this black pickguard to replace the white one on my Harley Benton PB-20 BK. I had read a previous review that said it fitted well. The guard arrived quickly and was well packaged. As usual it still had the protective clear film attached and close inspection showed a well made product. I had assumed that this would be a quick and simple replacement job. I was wrong.
Both guards have a small piece of foil attached to screen the electrics. This is slightly bigger on the new guard than the old. I removed the pots and socket and tried to fit to the new guard, at this point I noticed that the old one has location detents cut into it for the pot anti twist lugs. I did not feel confident in cutting these into the new guard and removed the lugs from the pots with side cutters. I then offered up the new guard and was surprised that it would not fit over the pick-ups as the holes were too small. I removed the electrics and compared the two guards. The new one has smaller cut-outs for the pick-ups and at least one of the screw mounting holes is in the wrong place. I decided not to return the guard to Thomann for a refund as there was enough guard to file and make fit. I did this and the new guard looks great. This may well be a 'one off' with the guard I was sent. I now have a black precision that matches my Harley Benton JB-70 Rosewood Deluxe jazz. I de-fretted the precision, installed maple veneer and then coated the fretboard with super glue, works really well.

disapointed

I wanted to replace the pick guard from the "Harley Benton PB-20 SBK Standard Series" with this one to get an all black look but when i tried to put it in place i found out the holes for the screws didn't match the holes on the bass guitar, not by much but not enough to fit.
I thought that because it's all thomann products it will fit without any problem but it didn't so i guess I'll just paint the one i have...

this spare pickguard is supposed to fit the current P bass Harley-Bentons and it does its job without problems. The holes do not align perfectly with the ones of the instrument (HB PJ HTR) but it went on without mods to the bass. It is of good quality and in my opinion it looks much better than the stock one (sort of fake tortoiseshell). The price is very good. Thomann service exemplary as always.
