True classic, great sound although a bit pricey.
This mic is an all time classic thats been used live and in the studio for a long time. Unfotunately it's a bit too expensive to take out for all gigs. This model features a Hi-pass filter which lets you cut out some of the low end info if you are using it on for example vocals or guitar. It has the typical "de-esser" stipe across the front that helps filter out som sibilants and light plosives, which makes it very good for vocals.
I've used this mic many times in the studio recording toms and bass. I really love this mic on the toms. It gives them the sort of "complete" tone that really let's you work wit the sound. a true all round mic that also works well for some guitar tones and for vocals, both in studio and live.
I use it a lot on bass in live situations, which gives me a great compliment to a DI signal. And works well enough to let me use only the mic signal if the basist overdrives the DI-box.

As many knows this microphone has a quite terrible design for the mic clamp, it tends to break if you handle it to roughly. the housing on this microphone is made out of plastic and although tough, I'd not recommend throwing this one around.

The negative thing about this mic is the clamp, that's not very sturdy. Mine broke, and the price for a new clamp (a small piece of plastic) is just absurd.

En mycket speciell mikrofon. Många använder den på virveltrumma, men live har den förekommit på både sång och gitarr, speciellt på 1960-talet.
Detta är en mikrofon som man kan pröva på många instrument. Blåsinstrument fungerar bra då mikrofonen har ett stort membran, den är ju dynamisk och blir lite varmare och mer avrundad, på t.ex. trumpet. Jag såg att ljudtekniker använde den live som overhead för cymbaler och allmänljud för trummor. Jag har använt den på samma sätt i studio vid några tillfällen. Men allt ifrån elgitarr, akustiska gitarrer, sång, blås, ja, i stort sett vad du vill, det kan fungera. Pröva. Jag träffade Bruce Swedien en gång efter ett föredrag han höll här i Sverige. En del i publiken tyckte inte att Shure SM 7, som han brukade använda på sång till Michael Jackson var ett bra val. Bruce svarade: "det beror på, vissa mikrofoner fungerar på olika röster, instrument och tillfällen på ett speciellt sätt". Det är lite så jag tycker om MD 421, jag har alltid med den på olika inspelningar, när någon mikrofon "inte fungerar" brukar jag testa med denna mikrofon, och ibland så stämmer det fantastiskt.

Jag har en gammal 421;a från 70-talet och var orolig att denna inte skulle leva upp till förväntningarna - men det gjorde den utan problem, och det är skönt att kunna använda vanliga XLR-kablar till den

One of the classic microphones.
Works on snare, toms, bassdrum, guitar and bass amps and connect you with the music history. Very solid and reliable. I must confess that the first time I used it I thought it was faulty because I didnt understand that I had to point it at the source...well, we learn, dont we.

I?ve only used it for a couple of hours in the home studio, but I?m stunned by how easy it is to get a good sound with guitars/amps.
Pros: The sound and build quality I?ve come to expect from the classic german microphone manufacturers.
Cons: None really - so far, I?ve heard and read complaints about the clamp, time will tell if they?re right.
Maybe a beginner could have wished for more documentation/tips.
