Schilke Bb- Flugelhorn silver plated

It is easy to play and leaves a good tone. The tone is clear and easy to bend and express with. I play the jazz and like it when my brass instruments are easy to play on; I don't want to push it. I have never been so much for warm-ups and this instrument really suits me well. It's a joy to just hold it, so beautiful. I can't really find anything negative about it.

It is real quality all the way, from what I heard this took Schilke two years to develop this model. I once tried this model in a brass-shop about five years ago, and I really liked it. Since then I have tried to get my hands on one, but in Sweden they are rare and almost not possible to find. I bought it with the intention: if I like it I will keep it, but if I will not like it, I will send it back. But I really liked it! All since I opened the box it have been a pure joy to play on. All instruments really have their own character, and this can really be said for this one.

If you have the money and look for a good quality flugelhorn I would recommend this one!! Tip: Look up HornTrader on youtube for more information about this flugelhorn.

Fantastic sound, excellent tuning. I can say only good words about the excellent sound and tuning of the instrument. All notes are in the right place, the sound is neither too dark nor too bright (maybe a very slight tendency to the bright side). The finishing, however, is really sloppy (it seems that good finishing is not a strength of Schilke instruments). For an instrument of this price and quality, one would expect much more care to the appearance of welds, silver plating and other details. Also the design of the instrument is not optimal in ergonomic terms: as it occurs to many other fluegelhorns, the 3rd-slide trigger is in an awkward position, making it hard to hold firmly the instrument. Also the springs of the pistons were too weak to my taste: I have replaced them by Vincent-Bach springs, which made the pistons much faster and better.
All in all, if you are looking for perfect intonation with a flexible sound, the Schilke Fluegelhorn is your instrument. But you will have to close your eyes to the sloppy fabrication.

Schilke are renowned for the quality of their instruments, and this is no different. The valves are silky smooth right out of the box, and only get better as they break in. Usefully, Schilke ship the 1040FL with two tuning pipes, one for each of the common tapers used on flugelhorn mouthpieces; for those players who already have a flugelhorn mouthpiece they're happy with, this avoids the need for a 'mouthpiece safari', or going to the hassle and expense of getting a copy of the existing mouthpiece made with a different shank.

The 1040FL is extremely comfortable to hold, and the trigger is ergonomically placed to allow for easy fine tuning of the low C# and D.

Man bekommt für die Investition einiges geboten! Großer Ton, egal ob im Keller oder im ewigen Schnee. Schilke übliche leichte Ansprache, unglaublich gute Intonation und ein fantastisch laufender Trigger runden das Gesamtpacket ab. Auch die Maschine läuft typisch leichgängig und ohne großen Kraftaufwand. Einfach ein gelungen gutes Instrument, mit fairem Preis-/-Leistungsverhälltnis. Wird leider ohne Koffer und OHNE Mundstück geliefert (dafür mit 2 Mundrohren; deutsch/amerikanisch), aber da sind wir ja sowieso Individualisten, von daher zu verschmerzen. Von daher: Grandios! Gut gemacht, Schilke!
