Got this kit and was really impressed by the value. Nice, acoustic looking e-drumkit (like the Roland VAD507) for a fraction of the price.
Of course the hardware is not great, and the cymbals might break if you abuse them.. But overall good value!
THE NO 1 ISSUE:
The specifications says "Dual zone hihat" but after talking with Thomann Support, its clear that it only applies to sounds played from the included drum-module, the Hihat does NOT send separate (or any) midi notes on the edge part of the hihat.
MY FIX:
The cable connecting the hihat IS stereo, however this issue lies with the module, and probably could be fixed with a FW-update. (The module does not have any documentation or FW updates on this or the millenium site, only the once provided physically in the box).
I plan to only use the e-drum kit with plugins so this is really important for me and the main reason for getting this kit over a cheaper millenium-kit. I manage to get it to work by connecting the hihat to the external input 1with a stereo-TRS cable - then i get different notes on the edge/bow-part of the hihat. I then mapped them to the "CC hihat"-mappings of Addictive drums (not a standard GM-mapping). Will probably work the same with Toontracks products.
The responsiveness of the cymbals are not great overall and you HAVE to calibrate the hihat. Even with some tweaking they will not register light hits very well. You will also need to tweak the settings for each meshpad, mainly the headroom-parameter to somewhere between 60-80 depending on your playingstyle. Other than that, most factory settings are great out of the box.
And yeah, the internal sounds of the module are not good at all.
