Harley Benton EAX-500TL Mahogany

I bought this guitar for my girlfriend's birthday and while it does sound very nice for the money and looks great, there was a lot that I didn't like. The first is the weird strap button location on the bottom of the neck. The other things are that the action was quite high and fret ends were sharp (in a few minutes i had light cuts in my skin), there were finish issues in the binding where it actually looked like it had been used. And there was a slight gap in the heel joint. Im guessing I got a bad guitar (a first time experience from Thomann, so really just bad luck)

The other positives are that Thomann actually provides a cable and a battery along with the guitar, so you are ready to go from the first moment. As i said, the guitar sounds good for the size/cost/features so im hoping that when I return this and order another one, it wont have these issues.

Edit: The replacement arrived and it doesnt have any of the previous issues (except for the strap button)! Lovely guitar, well worth the price.

The Guitar had to be sent back twice to Thomann. Let me summarise the first guitars issue. I took the guitar from the packaging and there had obviously been no attempt to tune the guitar so I tuned it using the internal tuner (which is not user friendly and I regard as an extra as I will normally use my trusted Snark). after tuning I started trying to play the guitar, everything had fret buzz up to the 5th or 6th fret. I attempted to adjust the truss rod with minor turns but even with 1/8 turn the bus was worse. so I adjusted to the other direction and the truss rod just became loser and loser with the buzz then at the 4th fret. It was sent back.

2 weeks later I have the replacement. The guitar had been tuned but the action seemed high so I checked between 1st and 12th fret and a quite a distance was visible between the stings and frets. Adjusting the truss rod this time was successful. This does point to some quality control issues with these instruments and whilst I appreciate Thomann's efforts to resolve they should try to get it right 1st time!!!! Later in playing the instrument I found significant fret buzz on the 13th fret on several strings. So back again it went to Thomann. I have now received it again It seems all OK

Note... I think the Strap attachment is in a really silly location on the lower side of the neck close to where the neck meets the body. I still do not know how I will work this out. There is a much better place for this. Thomann please investigate.

For all this it is an excellent instrument for the money.
