Good DI + Signal boost
guntherjay 13.02.2020
I have used this Preamp for a few months with different electric guitars. It works great for me. First i had a slight noise but when i put it and my computer on the same outlet and made sure not to cross any wires it was gone. With this i can use a minimum input gain on the DAW on my computer and i think it sounds good.
I bought it because i am OK with the Soundcard in my computer and i actually preferred not to get a new one, and maybe have to get new drivers. I only use it with my guitars into an Amp sim, but feel fairly confident that it would handle other instruments or some vocals with a mic into the mic input. IF i could use a new Soundcard or sound interface/mixer, i would pay some extra for that instead, (and have no reason to buy this). But i would make sure it was a decent one with fast connection to the computer. For just a DI + some extra boost in the signal, this is probably a good choice.

Sounds fine but a little too noisy

Exactly as the title says.
Adds saturation and a bit of compression to the signal along with some white noise.

Perfect for adding some warmth to your vocals or overdrive to your synth
Social Jay 04.08.2020
To cut a long story short I started with a Tube500USB but quickly outgrew it's lack of connectivity. To counter this I bought a XenyxUSB mixer. Immediately I was put off by the harsh, digital, almost tinny preamps (what award did those Xenyx preamps win exactly, guys?!)... so back to the Mic100 - which I actually prefer over the Mic500USB as it offers an XLR in AND out - something the 500 doesn't. In fact, I can't think of a use case where the 500USB is any better compared to the MIC100 and separate USB interface. I find the limiter more useful than the tube modelling modes on the 500 and I like the way the 100 "counts down" the LED's as it warms the tube.

For those wondering, my main use case is game streaming but I also sometimes hard wire a synth, drum machine and sampler through the mixer to record simple pieces and I have used the MIC100 to overdrive both the synth and the sampler (on separate occasions) and for this it adds a nice crispy distortion without fattening the sound too much. Great for those 90's trance melodies and/or 00's dirty drum n bass basslines.

Highly recommended by me - if not the most "serious" piece of equipment, as many uses and above all else, makes vocals sound lovely and warm which was my main reason for buying it... all for only 30 bucks?!

C'mon, where else can you find value like this in the music hardware World?
