This is my first baritone guitar so really I can only compare it with normal guitars rather than other baritone guitars. I play with an Irish traditional/folk band and by myself. I am the only guitar player in the band so it is an alternative to my main guitar. I always play with a plectrum both strumming and picking. It is an acoustic steel guitar with cutaway, canadian cedar top, mahogany back & sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, bone nut & saddle. A fine looking guitar. It has a Shadow Performer Pro Tuner preamp, which is a quality preamp and of course it's always handy to have a built in tuner When playing, the first thing you'll notice is its size. It's bigger than a normal guitar and this affects its handling. The neck is longer and broader so the frets are wider and the space between the strings are slightly wider. This makes it easier to hit the right string when picking but more of a stretch for your left hand to play chords. Obviously this will affect some chords more than others. The baritone guitar is tuned lower than a standard guitar and uses heavier gauge strings. Your chords change accordingly. So if you want to play a normal open G chord, you need to play a C shape. If you want to play C you must play an F shape etc. etc. Of course this will often change the structure of the song or tune you're playing. I enjoyed this as a kind of mental exercise. Because of its lower tuning, it makes you approach working out the riffs on songs and tunes differently. The sound is, of course, the most important thing. I love it. It's deep, somewhere between a normal guitar and an acoustic bass. It's big, round, full and loud. I wouldn't swap my normal guitar for it but it's a great addition to my musical arsenal and gives me a lot more scope sound wise. Practically, I can't play guitar and baritone guitar at the same time live but I will use both when recording. It's a quality instrument and well priced. I'm enjoying it a lot.
