Everything a modern guitar needs
Tomasz Sz., 28.05.2019
I was very long thinking about purchasing a headless guitar, and i finally decided to go Strandberg.
Why headless? Because it fits as carry-on baggage, it’s very light, and it’s handsome (look at Kiesel Vader).
The guitar is very universal. Active Fishman Fluence pickups are surprisingly dynamic and in my ears way better sounding than EMGs (however, it’s just my taste).
After using it for few months i have to say it was one of my best choices.
Ps. Be careful while installing tremolo bar. You can easily damage it by screwing it to tight. Turn it carefully, and just as you feel resistance, stop, and unscrew it one or two times. I damaged my tremolo by being to careless, but guys at Strandberg service were super friendly and they provided me a new one for free.

Great instrument
alanw77, 04.03.2018
Having decided I was in the market for a new guitar and owning six-string electrics along with an 8-string, I had been looking at a variety of 7-string instruments.
As I own a few Ibanez already and my main one being a very good guitar, I'd looked at those and wasn't really that happy with the options. They tend to make good quality instruments, but the necks aren't always to my liking. My main guitar is a prestige limited edition and is about 15 years old, now but another is a sabre-based model and though it looks nice, it has the wizard neck which doesn't suit me that well and when I did see one that I liked, it lacked a vibrato bridge.
I looked at a variety of others, including Mayones and though they look very nice, I wasn't sure that they justified the £3,000+ price tag and I also wanted a break from the pointy-headstock types.
I happened to come across some videos of players using Strandberg guitars and so I read up on them and there seemed to be a few things that appealed.
Firstly, there's the ergonomic neck, which is designed to allow the player to play for longer in comfort and this is a good thing, from my perspective, since I have some arthritis in my hands (particularly my thumbs) which has meant that I also have to have a special mouse for using on PC.
It's 'headless', which is a nice change and it's also very light.
The woods used are good quality and it has a nice ebony fingerboard with luminous inlays.
The Fishman Fluence pickups do sound very nice, indeed, providing nice strat-type sounds as well as a 'meaty' humbucker.
Everything about the design of the guitar has been well thought-out, including the positioning of the jack socket so that it's unobtrusive.
Then, there's the cutaway, which allows the player to sit with it in the classical style, so the neck is at a 45-degree angle.
When it arrived, it required setting-up and it does take a while, but I'm very used to tuning and adjusting floating-bridge guitars.
It was at this point where I found one flaw in the guitar, in as much as someone at the factory seemed to have been a little careless when setting it up, because, as I attempted to adjust the intonation of the low B string, the E string saddle jumped back, as it hadn't been properly secured. When I examined it, I found that the socket for the hex-key wasn't retaining the key correctly, making it very difficult to re-position the saddle - which I eventually did, with a lot of care!
That being done, I was on my way.
I must admit that after I'd ordered the guitar, never having played one before, I did wonder if I'd made a mistake and worried more about the neck profile, because i just wasn't sure it would be right for me. But I needn't have worried and they way it's designed is perfect - at least for me. One of the things that I think confuses people is that because of the "groove" on the back of the neck, it gives the impression that this is where your thumb should always be, but that's not the case.
The areas either side of the "groove" (it's not really a groove, but a flat area that runs the length of the neck) are just as important because my thumb also finds its way into these areas whilst playing, so it feels quite natural.
I must admit, I'd never really out much thought into my thumb position and it was only when I made a point of stopping playing and checking my thumb that I realised how naturally my thumbs align with these areas.
So, it's a very nice guitar.
On the downside, I suppose the negatives would be, as mentioned already, the saddle screw on the E string. Secondly, I think that when spending this kind of money on a guitar, I'd expect a bit more protection than that afforded by a gig-bag. However, I can't see myself going on the road with it anytime, soon.
And finally it is a lot of money for a guitar. To me, anyway. I think that some could be put off by the fact that it's made in the far East but as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't have to be made in the US or UK to be good. And it is very, very good.

Update: I think it's fair to say that this guitar has been of immense help to me. Not only has it helped with the ergonomic neck, but it's helped improve my playing and now I am playing better on all my guitars, including acoustic guitars. I guess it's possibly down to the fact that I can practise more on the Prog 7 and then play the others, but I feel quite differently about my playing, now, though my 8-string still remains a problem.
I'd say that at this rate, I may have to get an 8-string Strandberg, but I doubt my wife would allow it and for one extra string?
Still, one can hope that it would be as good as the Prog 7.
