4. Setups & Configuration
The way you set up your effects units can make a huge difference to the end result. The most important consideration is the order in which they are linked together. For instance, putting distortion first in the chain will mean that every effect coming after it will affect the distorted sound rather than the clean sound. Likewise, it would be rather unusual to have a reverb effect followed by a resonant envelope filter, as the reverb tail would largely be filtered out. Many bass amps offer a switchable effect loop. This can be great if you want to kill every effect in the signal path at once, but not so useful if you want just one or two to remain. At the end of the day, the best advice is to experiment - there is no right way to connect everything together!
