Looks small, but is great!

I use the motu monitor as a computer interface, as a rehearsal headphone mixer and as a life P.A. mixer for small gigs using wifi.

With the build in mixer (router) you can do anything. When it is setup like a home studio you kan use 2 pair of speakers with direct control/mute buttons in the front.

To use all the inputs i connect my focusrite peamp with a small ADAT cable. You can have 24 inputs with this monitor 8 and send 6 stereo mixes to the headphones.

Pro's:
A lot of in and outputs
Perfect sound, you chose the preamps you like
Build in headphone amps
Control over wifi

Contra's:
Mix software not that easy to do a life mix with laptop or tablet.
No midi

M8 als aanvulling op A16: TOP!

De MOTU M8 is een uitstekende aanvulling op de A16AVB. De M8 fungeert als main out, 8analoog in en 8 analoog uit, waarbij gelijk ook 6 koptelefoon uits mogelijk zijn met eigen monitor mix.
Na update van de firmware en overschakelen naar OSX10.10.5 werkt het systeem als een zonnetje. De kaarten communiceren via AVB app, al is enig experimenteer nodig om alle AVB stromen goed afgestemd te krijgen.
De MainOut van de M8 heeft een meer voldoende kwaliteit voor studio monitoring (Adam A8x in mijn geval). De aanvullende mainout kan gebruikt worden voor extra monitor aansturing. De AVB app maakt het mogelijk om 6 separate koptelefoon mixes te maken, die via de separate outs worden uitgestuurd. Voor mijn bescheiden studio meer dan genoeg. Ook kunnen deze outs (gespiegeld op extra uitgangen) worden gebruikt om b.v. fysiek te routen naar outboard compressors e.d.
In mijn geval heb ik nu, samen met de 16A, de beschikking over 24 analoog in - uit van hoge kwaliteit om mijn outboord mee aan te sturen.

Top Technik mit Schattenseiten

Der M8 ist an Routing-Flexibilität kaum zu überbieten, der Klang ist hervorragend. Nur leider ist die Software (bei mir auf Win 10 64bit) eine Katastrophe. Das Benutzerpanel funktioniert eigentlich nur nach einem direkten Neustart des M8, ansonsten ist der Aufruf des Panels ein Glücksspiel. Hier muss MOTU dringend nachbessern.

Prima Arbeitstier im Studio

Setz ich im Studio in der Abhöre und im Aufnahmeraum im AVB-Setup ein. Die 8 Wandler sind tadellos ( prima Line-Level Eingänge ) , dazu die 6 Kopfhörerausgänge, die sehr sehr sauber klingen und ausreichend Leistung mitbringen - nicht Hyperlaut aber genug Lautstärke produzieren ) .
Das Highlight ist aber die variable Möglichkeit, 6 Kopfhörermixe mit dem internen " virtuellen " Mixer zu erstellen und unabhängig per Rechner/Tablet/Phone über die Webbasierte App quasi als Personal-Monitoring zu fungieren. Nimmt man den Stereo und Auxausgang hinzu, hängt einen Kopfhöreramp noch dran kann man 8 !!! unabhängige Mixe ausgeben.........
Ok, die Bedienung ist am Anfang etwas tricky, aber das reinfuchsen lohnt sich.
Die Lautstärke-Regler sind klein und etwas fummelig, funktionieren aber gut.

Nicht umsonst hab ich zwei davon. Im AVB-System eine tolle Erweiterung.
6 Kopfhöhrerausgänge, 8 Lineeingänge und zwei Stereoausgänge und 2 ADAT Eingänge, bis zu 12 Kopfhörer ( pro Kopfhörerweg vorn und hinten ) zu einem fairen Preis
