Twang King Pickup

The DiMarzio Tele-Twang King brings exactly the classic twang sound of the old Fender single coil, as one knows and loves it from Telecaster and Broadcaster, this time with ringing highs and a bit more attack. Due to the slightly higher output power, the sound remains warm and round.

Great sounding pickup
Anónimo 01.03.2017
Bought as a replacement for the stock pickups on a mexican tele.

Great tele bridge sound, nice and clear, good note definition and lots of twang. Not quite as hot as I was expecting so be prepared to set the pickup height to match your neck pickup. I have it paired with the twang king neck, and the range of tones from the guitar is awesome.

Build quality is good. The metal baseplate is sturdy, wiring is tidy and there is a ground wire for the baseplate preinstalled...be careful though as this third wire is quite flimsy.

Supplied wiring instructions are poor, and the DiMarzio website isn't much help, however there are plenty of wiring diagrams online to help you out.

Very happy with the purchase. A great upgrade from the stock pickups.

OMG! The earth moved for me! But the Nocaster pups are the real mackoy!

I got myself a cheap but well-made 90 quid Chinese tele copy (maple neck, ash body and through body strings) and put this baby in it and... OMG! It's just fantastic!

The pup is assertive, but not shrill or metallic-sounding, with great attack and it just chimes like a bell. The clarity and bite is just superb. It is strong on treble/higher strings, but the bass/lower strings comes over reasonably well too. I am entirely happy with this ridiculously cheap pup and my 120 quid guitar!

However, since I first wrote this review, I have installed some Fender Nocaster pups instead. The sound is much warmer, rawer and quacky/spanky, so I am not sure if the TK pup is THAT vintage sounding! It has also increased in price from 46 euros to 66, so it is no longer a bargain. Get a Fender Nocaster set for 119 euros, and you'll be happy as Larry!

I am a bass player and I actually ordered this for my friend to put it in MIM Telecaster and to pair it with a Twang King neck pickup he got earlier. It is a bit thinner sounding than the stock pickup and it seems to have a lot more of presence. His solos sound quite better now tbh. His MIM Tele sound more like MIA one. Solid build from DiMarzio!

Highly recommended upgrade.

Bought it to replace bridge pickup on a Japanese telecaster. The pickup sounds amazing without being harsh or brittle. I was able to get a decent amount of twang combined with the neck pickup (also replaced with a twang king neck). I was amazed with the pickup response when I was turning the volume down as it was keeping the same EQ frequencies at all level positions.

Pros: sound quality, construction.
Cons: the absence of the traditional base plate, however the sound was very twangy even without it
