Win 10, 64bit, 8Gb, i5, Ableton. I've been using a Focusrite 2i4 for all of my recordings, It was decent however the sound quality of the Zoom is so much cleaner and so much more impressive. The Zoom sounds professional in comparrison. The Focusrite worked but gave me drivers issues for 2 years. For the Zoom, I installed the correct drivers for my system, plugged it in and turned it on. It opened MixEfx itself and connected. After opening Ableton, and allowing the inputs and outputs, it was, and still is, incredibly smooth. The latency is amazing! In 192kHz, I get a RTL of 1.41ms at 32 samples. I use input monitoring with EQ on each channel and bus them to an aux reverb then out. I use the 96 sample option for smooth operation and that gives me 2.04 ms of latency. It's delicious. The Mix Efx software is great however you may need to reed the manuel. I thought it may have been broken, but it turns out that it wasn't and I needed to do some reading. You can do almost everything in software and I really enjoy doing so. The build quality is instantly striking, the gain and Headphone volume knobs feel super smooth and the main volume knob is really nice. The item as a whole feels well built and super sturdy. The hardware latency program (Driver) gives a very smooth operation and the changing of sample rate and latency times is easy and smooth.
The cons: The gain pots feel just a little delicate for every day use. I choose to control the gains in software anyway as it means that I can use numbers for gain levels. I had heard this prevous to buying the item and, in my opinion, It's not as big a deal as I thought it would be. Group phantom power. I would have prefered to have individual switches like the MOTU 8 pre does however the MOTU did not work at all with my system I had to send it back. The Zoom was practically plug and play. Group Phantom power switches are fairlly common and for me have not, as of yet, caused me any difficulty but it would have been a nice fature.
I'm very happy with my purchase and I would recommend this thing or even its little brother to anyone in the market for an interface. Super happy with it.
I ordered this interface 1,5 months ago. I use it with ableton 9 and cubase 5 and with an intel i7 4x 2,3 Ghz 8GB RAM laptop. The driver installation was easy and the soud device setup too. The potmeters and the housing quality is very high, and the design is awesome too. I used it with guitar rig, and it has clear nice sound without any annoying latency. Usually i use it 48Khz mode and 170 buffer size, and the latency is around 6 ms, what is cool. The preamp are noiseless, i cant hear any noise in the records.
Contras: I only miss the dinamic effects and EQ in the Mix FX driver, and the output channels are paired in stereo, so i cannot unstick them.
In total, its a very good choice to a home and a pro studio too with mac or a power plant PC it can working 192 Khz without any noise and it gives back a natural sound image.
