This is a fine quality pedal, not cheap, but its reputation is well deserved.
I bought it as a bit of a gamble- I already had a couple of Tubescreamer type pedals that I was very happy with, but decided I was willing to splash out to see what all the fuss was about with this pedal. It turned out to be a great purchase!
The basic sound, as we all know, is along the lines of the classic Tubescreamer circuit, but for one, has slightly less of the aggressively mid focussed EQ curve, and secondly is made with high quality bits and pieces for great sound quality. I wasn't sure I'd notice much difference between this and similar cheaper pedals, but the tone does (to my own ears, at least) have something above the others I own. It just sounds more amp-like than cheaper pedals, particularly in the higher frequencies, which on lesser pedals are often the first to start sounding 'fizzy' or 'buzzy'. There is also an openness to the sound which is much sought after, but hard to find in overdrive pedals.
It is fair to say that the refinements in tone with a pedal like this could be hard to pick out in a live band context (and certainly so for your average gig-goer), but for those who are a bit obsessive about guitar tone, it is a worthy pedal to treat yourself to in the knowledge that you will be sounding as good as you can!
The expanded EQ section is also worth noting- having separate treble and bass controls makes the basic Tubescreamer tone far more versatile, easily matching your clean EQ and adding dirt from there, and making for a much better overdriven rhythm sound than these types of pedals are usually known for.
Construction is very solid and feels high quality, and while this pedal may be something of an expensive luxury, the luxury part is as much in evidence as the expensive!
