Great sounding analog tremolo. Not too choppy or over the top. It produces a warm, pleasant, "musical" sound.
The controls are good. There is just one thing that isn't perfect - I still can't crack the slope control - I'd prefer a simplier/more graphic wave shape switch. It is all a matter of getting used to it I guess...
Also, it works beautifully as a clean boost - set at min.intensity + max. volume. I have it last in my chain and it gives me that extra volume kick when I need it.
The thing to consider - it isn't the smallest tremolo pedal around - it eats up quite a bit of space on my board. Fortunately, the input and power jacks are all on one side which makes it just a bit practical when you want to really squeeze your pedals side by side.
When I researched tremolo pedals on the net before I settled on this one, I came across some reviews where uses of this trem were complaining about the quality of the foot switch. It was a bit concerning, but now, after a few months of use I haven't had any problems with it:)
All in all - I'm very happy with it - highly recommended!
Having an amp without builte in trem and playing Americana is obviously not going to work, thus my purchase of the Voodoo lab trem. For my taste overly complicated. The second knob I leave simply turned all the way off. The volume knob I don't use because I want the volume to stay where I have the amp set volume wise. Also all the knobs wiggle about with the slightest nudge, so one has to be careful when stepping on the pedal, and remember to reset the settings after transport.
At first I was of course very excited about the pedal but after several months of taking it to practice, gigs, back home, over and over and over again the pots started getting real scratchy. Not something I had expected! Suffice to say that was a real disappointment.
Furthermore, having owned both an AC30 and a 65 twin reverb reissue, I know what badass trem sounds like. In my opinion, save up an extra 200 bucks and buy an amp with built in trem. You'll be glad you did when that amp trem comes swelling up in your guts and makes your house shake.
But! If one must buy a trem pedal (and often one indeed must) the sound of the Voodoo Lab trem is in my opinion better than the boss or danelectro trems. In this price class, worth considering.
