The main issue with a lot of guitar made in China is they look great on paper when you see the spec, but the quality control as a rule is terrible, and unfortunately this applies to the Loar Brand instruments. The spec looks great but until you get to play the actual instrument, you really don't know what you're going to get, as apposed to the higher price/more established brands where the quality is pretty even across the range. I really wanted to buy the 650 model, but is was out of stock and apparently not coming back, so I bought the 350. The Guitar I received looks great, I like the nice chunky neck and wide nut, and overall it has a nice acoustic tone (depending on the strings). I mention the strings because the guitar comes with standard nickel round would electric strings, which is fine for playing amplified blues, but terrible for jazz or acoustic playing. There are a couple of minor cosmetic areas that show this guitar to be a budget model, rather than a high end guitar but for the price (£400) it is acceptable (not so much at the full RRP). The main issue I had with the guitar I received was most of the frets (around 15) were not seated correctly, thus causing a massive amount of fret buzz all over the neck. I am lucky in that I have the tools and experience to sort the problem out, but for many people they would simply have to return the guitar, the guitar plugged in is also very prone to feedback, so it simply won't work (as is) in a loud environment, and would need careful amplifier placement, in smaller venues. This may be due to the pickup, and I will either make sure its properly waxed or replace it as I have a spare Eastman. So overall I would say it's a decent budget jazz guitar if you get a good one, but it is very likely it will need a professional setup, so bare that in mind.
I am confident when I finished the work on my guitar it will be a superb workhorse jazz guitar for recording/gigs, and over all I am pleased I bought it.
I'm marking this guitar on the price I paid (around £400), not the RRP (around £650), if I was reviewing on the RRP I would mark the guitar's rating lower, and lower still if I had not been able to sort the frets out myself.
God finish, smukt udseende, stor akustisk lyd, .
