One of the most common claims about tube technology is that "they don't make them like they used to". Well, the JJ 6V6-S might change all that, as this is certainly a very different tube to what came with my Super Champ XD, making a compact amplifier sound much bigger, and in conjunction with a speaker upgrade, has turned a practice/small venue combo into something more than capable of competing with a live drummer in a medium-sized venue. Be aware that these tubes are slighty taller than other 6V6 tubes, but they also have a visibly larger plate area, which I think contributes to their sounding more like a 6L6 than a 6V6; they also tolerate a much higher plate voltage and may be worth considering as a lower-powered alternative for some 6L6 amps with proper adjustments by a competent technician.
I wanted the most reliable clean sounding output valves in my Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Amp. I've tried JJ valves in pre-amp stages as well, also EL84's in another amp and all are still going strong and give me just the right sound!
