I bought a 5-string bass for a mini project I was doing. The guitar played beautifully but the sound was muddy, weak and suffered from poor ground buzzing. Having researched the options I opted for the SSB-5 pickups. They appeared to offer the best in terms of quality, fit and economy and I wasn't disappointed. In terms of mechanical fit, they were almost a 1:1 drop in replacement. The SSB-5 box came with everything including a suggested 3-control wiring diagram. However, since my guitar was fitted with 4-controls (2-Vol, 2-Tone) I would have liked an option for this. In the end I ignored the Seymore Duncan wiring diagram and wired the guitar my own way. The end result is an excellent sounding guitar with a huge range of tones available. While not in the active PU league, the SSB-5s have transformed my guitarinto a real playable and good sounding unit, far better then what I was getting with the stock PU's that came with the guitar.
I'm a big Seymour Duncan fan so this may be slightly biased.. :P These are great pickups. I used them in my passive Yamaha. They have a lovely full tone and i think, add to the overall sustain of the instrument. To get the most out of them use 500k pots.
