A great sounding and very versatile microphone

I've had this for a year now and I absolutely love this mic. In fact I think it's one of the best mics you can buy in this price range.

Let's talk specs first.
It has a two stage HPF (60Hz / 120Hz) which is very nice.
-10dB and -20dB pad, which means it can withstand even the loudest of noises. With the -20dB pad engaged sE claims 142dBSPL which is very good. And to top it off, it has four polar patterns; cardioid, hyper cardioid, figure-8 and omni.

I've used this on drums and percussion live with good results. It's a killer mic on bass drum! The included shock mount is made to be low profile, so getting up close to a source is no problem.

In the studio I've used it on singing and spoken word, both in cardioid and omni and had stellar results. It has a very clear and uncoloured sound. It's not beefy, not warm, not airy. Just clean, clear, and natural sounding. The omni-setting does increase the high frequency sensitivity a touch, so on some spoken word voices I did have to do some mild de-essing to contain a few hard S'es. It's a little bit more forgiving in cardioid.

It's not a "character" mic. If you're looking for something "vintage-sounding" or to add any sort of vibe to a recording, this might not be the best mic, but if you're looking for something that'll give you a clean and natural sound, this might be the mic for you.

I bought it because I needed a relatively cheap all-round microphone for live use and this hasn't let me down at all. And I was pleasantly surprised that it could hold its own on voice in the studio as well. I will be buying another one so I can have a stereo pair, that's for sure!

Bass Drum Mic

So I bought this microphone for my bass drum. It really is a killer mic for bass drum as someone else said on a previous review.

I only have it for a day, so I will update my review after I use it for some time and on other sources such as percussion, bass amp, double bass etc.

The first thing I noticed is that it is really well-built!! It was neatly packed inside a firmly closed plastic bag and inside its case.
The case is really cool and looks like it will protect the mic.
The shock mount provided is also cool but the part that holds the microphone is plastic and doesn't look like it will last. Truth be told it looks amazing though.
Now the buttons on the mic look stable and not easily moved something that is really good having in mind that other microphones with easily moving buttons can have their settings changed without noticing before the recording.

Now about the sound... I used it with a Tascam model 24 console and on -20db pad to record an 18" bass drum ( i am a jazz drummer) and the sound was amazingly true to its source.. I could really hear my bass drum's sound as I expect it to be and as I hear it live. I can hear the attack, low end, the sustain, and I'm really excited.
In my opinion the mic gives a slight vintage character to the sound but then again i will update my review after i record more with it.
