These straplocks are the only type I've ever used. So I cannot really compare them to any others. Having said that, I'm quite satisfied with the functinality and reliability of these. However, a few points should be made for those who consider using them:
1. If you use Gibson guitars, installing these straplocks may be a bit of a challenge. The stock screws are thinner and longer than those originally found at Gibson guitars. On the other hand, the Gibson stock screws will not fit the holes of the straplocks. So you will have two options: either to shorten the Schaller screws and see that they still hold well in the wood of the guitar (maybe securing them with a drop of superglue) or filing the heads of the original Gibson screws to fit into the locks. Well, you can also use a third type of screws as well.
2. Another thing is that the nut that is used to attach the "mama" part of the lock to the guitar strap can in some circumstances unscrew and fall offl. So make sure that you screw the nut well enough and check it now and then. I've also read somewhere that you can fix the nut more securely by slightly hitting the point where the nut and the screw meet with a spot punch. Or maybe a drop of superglue will help here as well?
Apart from that, these are very nice strap locks that I could highly recommend.
If you haven't got one of this lock, I strongly advised you to buy one. It is a little investment worth to make if you want to be sure that your instrument will not fall on the group during practice, rehearsal or concert. Now, the Schaller is simple to install and, surprise, it is compatible with other brands such as Supreme. So, if you already have another system installed on other guitars or a strap that use a different system but consider to buy this one, you can check the specifications and measurements to be sure that the Schaller fits. That was my case. The setting is simple, though it takes a bit of a struggle to screw the nuts on the strap. Also, a piece of advice: during the first days of use, check regularly the nuts on the strap. Due to the thickness of the strap, the nuts tend to unscrew themselves. So, you will need to re-screw them a couple of times before they stand firmly (and for long) in place.
