Schaller Locking Nut Right R3 CH

I've installed it using the two small screws directly into the wood. The installation went quite smooth.

- You need to flatten the nut slot excess in the back using a filer. You can lower the string action at the nut if you want. Is good by default but you can improve that too...don't file too much though.

- After that I just centered the nut by tensing the strings over it a bit and put the screw right in without drilling.

I'm using this locking nut in combination with a Schaller FS-C StopTail with microtuners on a DIY LesPaul (look for a review on that one)

This is the real deal Schaller Locking Nut replacement and the quality is so solid, it's not even worth looking at other alternatives!

It's rock solid, the plating lasts and doesn't corrode easily, and most importantly.... It keeps your strings locked and in tune at all times.

I bought this to replace the cheaper Floyd nut on my Charvels and this immediately improved tuning stability. It just works exactly as a locking nut should.

It's the R3 size nut so it'll fit the Charvel San Dimas and So-Cal guitars with no problems at all. You get the option of mounting it through the neck (using the two long bolts) or simply screwing it down via the top (which is how i use it).

Obviously measure the nut width of your guitar first to be sure it will fit. If you need a different width or spacing, they make other types R2, R4 etc.

Unter dem serienmäßigen Klemmsattel meiner Alex Lifeson Les Paul waren ab Werk an den seitlichen Rändern zwei paarweise frei gestapelte, winzige Passscheibchen zu je 0,015" Dicke beigelegt, was atemberaubenden 0,762 mm entspricht. Entsprechend schwebte er weitgehend freitragend luftig über dem Hals, was auch angesichts der Befestigung mit zwei Holzschrauben im Mahagoni an dieser kritischen Stelle etwas abenteuerlich aussah. Als ich mit vollflächigen Standard-Passscheiben beilegte - 0,70 mm genügten -, stellte ich fest, dass diese unter der kopfplattenseitige Unterkante fast einen Millimeter hinausragten. (Dabei bemerkte ich auch, dass diese Gibson Custom-Gitarre aus dem Jahre 2012 ein laminiertes Griffbrett hat, aber das ist eine andere Geschichte.) Der werksseitig montierte Sattel war offenbar kürzer als üblich. Länge meint hier die Ausdehnung in der Halsachse, da als Breite diejenige des Griffbretts anzusehen ist.

Das erschien mir etwas eigenartig für eine so hochpreisige Gitarre, und ich beschloss, ihr eine Schaller 383 R3 in Chrom zu gönnen. Und siehe da, es genügte eine Passscheibe von 0,2 mm. Der serienmäßige Sattel war demnach nicht nur kürzer, sondern auch deutlich niedriger.

Der Schaller 383 R3 besetzt mit seiner Länge genau die Fläche, die von Gibson konstruktiv dafür vorgesehen ist. Die ab Werk zum vorigen Sattel passend gekürzte Halsstababdeckung mit Faksimile-Autogramm habe ich um weitere etwa 0,8 mm gekürzt und dabei auch den Winkel zwischen Kopfplatte und Sattelvorderfläche berücksichtigt.

Meine mexikanischen Fender Floyd Rose Stratocasters kamen ab Werk mit Schaller-Klemmsätteln. Darüber sollte man bei Gibson mal nachdenken.
