I have loved the premium Rockbag gigbags ever since I had an octave mandolin shipped in one from the US to the UK. The padding is 2/3 times as thick as on any other gigbags, and the exterior is tough enough to withstand the rigours of sessions and festivals etc. Zips are strong and the handles (one on the side, one on the top, plus the rucksack straps on the back) are well-positioned and nicely balanced. Good pockets too, a wide one on the body for your sheet music (you do take sheet music to sessions don't you ?!) and a long one on the neck for plectrums, capos, spare strings, banjo spanners etc.
I bought this for an old Windsor Ideal Model 8 zither banjo, a vintage instrument that came with no case, so I'm very happy it now has a safe home in this Rockbag.
At first I was skeptical about a banjo gig bag. But this bag is like wrapping you 5 string in a huge thick blanket. Your banjo fits snug in its thick padding and the neck is supported by a thick pillow pad with a wide Velcro strap. The zippers are large (almost oversized) and look like they will hold up for years. The straps are wide and comfortable and make transporting you banjo a breeze. I would never use just a gig bag to tour (like that's ever going to happen) but as far as just going to and from a local jam or band practice, this is the way to go. I have gig bags for other instruments. However, the look, feel, and overall performance of this bag is a huge step up in quality.
