I bought this amp having previously been a user of QSC amps and I have nothing but good to say about the QSC GX 7.Currently I am driving to 15" EV tops and i have tons of headroom and no fear of its ability to drive the tops even further.
Pros - having always had my amps rackmounted one of the most important things was keeping the amp cool. I installed this amp into a slot previously lt used by another amp which died on me and the difference in the temperature of the two amps is phenomenol. I am yet to have the unit run hot, it does warm up occasionally but never runs hot.
- On my latest upgrade of gear i was trying to purchase quality items, whilst also trying to lighten the load. weighing just 7.5 kg it was a no brainer in terms of weight. and one thing i underestimated was the units size; 89 x 483 x 257 mm. The unit is very compact and has allowed me to put in another rack unit into my case.
- The biggest selling point for me with this item was is versatility in terms of its ins and outs, with its ins covering;XLR, RCA and 6.3 mm stereo jack. it gives me the reassurance that if one let me down id always have a back and its always vital to have a plan b during a gig. Its outs cover: speaker twist combo connectors for jack and 2-pin and 4-pin speaker twist thomann plugs and terminal blocks. The option for jacks i have yet to avail of but again it puts my mind at ease knowing that its available to me.
I have nothing to fault with this amp and would recommend it for anyone who is on the road or does alot of traveling, its lightweight factor makes it such a good purchase and its this reason why i consider this one of the best amps purchased in recent years.
We purchased two of these last week to replace two aged C-Audio amps, one of which died on us. They are running EV ZX4 15" tops and Dynacord F8 18" Bins, EQ and Crossover etc. handled by a Driverack PA controller. At 8ohms per side we are getting 735w per channel and I have to say there is a big improvement in overall sound, even though the old amps were rated at 800w into 8ohms. We hooked up the amps without any changes to gains or EQ on the system so any change was down to the amps alone. The top end is crisp and the bottom was tight and resposive running live band or Disco. We ran them for 4hrs last night and pushed them hard. They ran warm but not hot and the signal didn't clip once with gain up full, and yes we were loud, big room with 400 guests. The amps are lighter and (alot) smaller than our old ones, great, as we are on the road alot. They are easy to hook up, plenty of wiring options in and out. After two nights with these I am very happy with the performance and would recommend them, for DJ they are great as they are light and easily hooked up but loose out on processing. For live band they have plenty of power for large venues and two in a rack with 6x outboard gear is easily lifted by two or pushed by one. Over all for the price they are good value, basic, but if you have the outboard gear you don't need the extra bells and whistles that come with the likes of the Crown XTi range which were also on our shopping list.
